The Nations Leadership Institute (NLI) was borne out of the quest of the Founder, Akogun Iyiola Oyedepo, to redefine what it means to be a Leader. He believes that to address today’s challenges and reap the inherent opportunities requires skills which are currently not taught in our educational institutions.

The School currently has five Faculties which are all engaged in the development of a fresh crop of proficient leaders for our political and business organizations.

By tools, you mean what and what?
If you are to bring your business to a successful place, there are a lot of things that you will want to consider. One thing which you will absolutely have to focus on is ensuring that you have the right tools on board and that you know what you actually need in order to make your business work out well enough. There are many different kinds of tools, and many of them are not necessarily things you would even consider to be tools. However, the more aware you are of these, and the more that you understand what tools are likely to be useful for your business, the more of a chance you have of success in the future.
Tools could be a website, a flyer for marketing, your pic, the right mindset. Etc

21 Political Lies in Nigeria sheds light on the affectionate relationships between lying and politics. Using rapt and easy to understand diction, the author makes the language of the text reader friendly offering a unique pattern of hunger and thirst for more. stated with the antidote thereof. The book is of 21 chapters with each chapter devoted to each lie. The lies are well stated and with the antidote to each great lies. the attempt is to expose the lies as the usual antics by some politicians to set trap on the way of the electorates. CAN GOOD LEADERS BECOME GREAT POLITICIAN?
A leader is any person who is appointed to be in charge of a body or a group of people and to take care of all their interests in an impartial way. He has to be strong mentally and able to guide his followers to success based on facts and considering the risks involved in making a move towards a specific set of goals. A politician, on the other hand, is a person who leads a group of people with common interests and holds or aspires to hold a position in a government. He has to be elected by the masses and has the obligation to represent their interests in the office that he holds and lead his or her subjects towards a bright future based on their interests. He must have great leadership skills in order to be considered successful.
One of the qualities of a great leader is the ability to be unselfish. A good leader must put the interests of his people first. One of the main challenges that a leader faces is ensuring that he considers the people’s interests above his own ones when making any decision. For instance, he has to award a tender. Some leaders fall into the temptation of awarding tenders to companies in which they have interests and end up paying more than they should at the expense of the organization that they are in charge of. If such a leader went ahead to be a politician in charge of a country, he or she would make inter-governmental deals, for example, import of goods, based on what they will gain on a personal level instead of looking at what the deal will be worth to the country. However, a leader who overcomes such a challenge will definitely make a great politician.
Being impartial is another quality of a good leader. The ability to treat everyone equally will make a difference between a good and a bad leader. Some organization heads will allocate staff to departments based on the ones they favor and not the ones that deserve it. This leads to some overstaffed and understaffed departments of the same organization, which affects the overall performance. An impartial leader will make a great politician, as he will allocate resources to the whole country based on its needs and not on whether the region supported him or her to the office or not. They will also appoint people to government offices based on their performance and not on their political affiliation. This will be to the benefit of the whole country and not just of a particular region.
Good decision making is another aspect of good leadership. Leaders have a responsibility to make decisions on behalf of the people who have appointed them to the position and the interests of the organization. Inability to do this leads to formation of poor policies and guidelines to the detriment of the company. The same case applies to a politician who is the President of a country. His sound decision making will lead to the development of his country politically, socially and economically. On the other hand, poor decision making will result in slow economic development, political instability and other unpleasant consequences.
Another aspect of a good leader is the ability to inspire. Being a leader involves guiding people positively and giving them hope in tough times. The world financial crisis was one of the challenges that called for inspiration of the people by their leaders. Companies were facing losses and had to make tough decisions, for example, budget cuts and staff retrenchment in order to stay afloat. Leaders who managed to inspire their staff through the tough financial times by giving them hope for a brighter future managed to guide their organizations through the crisis and quickly recover after the stabilization of the world economy. Such leaders would make great political heads, as they are able to inspire their countries through various social and economic challenges. These include unemployment, famine, poor housing and social security. We have an example of the current president of the United States of America who provided inspirational leadership through the world financial crisis. This turned out to be one of the reasons the people voted for him at the presidential elections.
The four examples above are some of the many pointers to the fact that a good leader will make a great politician. A great leader is a product of good leadership and there is no way we can separate the two of them. A successful politician must have all the qualities of good leader, otherwise his or her government will be lacking in many aspects and this will affect the country’s growth negatively.

POLITICS: THE NEED FOR PREPARATIONS
Being the text of the speech of AKOGUN IYIOLA OYEDEPO, President/Founder of NATIONS LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE at the occasion of the closing ceremony of the Weekly Political Dialogue on 20th December 2021.
Courtesies,
Introduction
Perhaps there is no field of human endeavor where knowledge and skills are demanded but are abysmally absent than in the contemporary field of politics and politicking in Nigeria. David Easton defined politics as the ‘’authoritative allocation of values’’. Am yet to know or see any other system that can comprehensively compete in the allocation of real needs and values in the society than the state through the instrumentality of government. Politics is the building blocks for participation in government so as to allocate societal values and needs. Attainment of political powers could be through monarchy, totalitarianism, theocracy but in as much as democracy allows for mass and popular participation in the establishment and running of governments; it is second to none in importance.
My Participation in Politics
I am a trained political scientist, a lawyer and a politician. I have been in politics for the past thirty two years. During the thirty two years, I had operated at various levels of political parties at the Local, State and Federal levels. I had been in the Executive arm of government as a commissioner in the government of Kwara State and I know the workings of the Legislature as a one time member of Kwara State House of Assembly. My training as a Legal Practitioner make me to know the workings of the judiciary. There is therefore no arms of government that is strange to me. At least I have knowledge of all. I have been fully prepared for a stint in politics.
My Burden on Leadership
My long years of participation in partisan politics where I have seen it all, have created in me some burdens: burdens on the issue of leadership and politics. So many things are certainly wrong with our politics: politics without principle, ideology, enlightened self-interests, programs, manifesto, commitment, docile electorates/citizen, unaccountable leadership, fair-weatherism, etc. The problems are legion. Yet politics remains the most reliable instrument of getting whatever we want in an organized human society. Such a demanding field of human endeavor should not be invaded by ill-trained, ill-mannered, and absolutely ill-brought up children. Burden for effective and progressive political leadership is the vision behind the establishment of Nations Leadership Institute (NLI). We are conscious of the fact that without fixing our politics, we never can fix our economy and there shall be no prosperity in the land. Our school for Democratic Studies; one of the five schools of the Institute, is the anchor of the Weekly Political Dialogue, the closing event that is the subject matter of this gathering.
The Weekly Political Dialogue?
The idea behind the Weekly Political Dialogue is to infuse some understanding and knowledge into the mind of those that must take a plunge into politics and leadership at whatever level. It is our belief that while the science of politics is taught in our universities; the art of politics is learnt on the field. Experience garnering in politics should be gradual, incremental or step by step. Political skills acquisition could also be special or general. There are some people in politics that specialize in party or election administration, while some make their stint by standing for elections; either to the legislature or in the Executive arm of government. And yet there are some that traverse all areas of politics. But in whatever area one may want to make his or her mark, training or preparation is imperative. The art of politics can be learnt through political mentorship or by taking short courses as it is done for the Graduands of today at the Weekly Political Dialogue, the outcome of which we celebrate today. The dialogue was for a period of three months.
Thirty-Nine Years of Political Instability
But is it necessary? Is it desirable to go through this type of training if you must go into politics? In Nigeria with a fledgling democracy, it is importantly necessary. With the military putsch of 1966, all the political knowledge, skills acquired and experience of the first generation of our leaders that started in 1922 till 1966 came to an abrupt end. A child born in 1960 was about five years of age, when the army took over in 1966. Such a child could not have had knowledge of democracy as an infant. At the second republic of 1979, the child of 1960 was a teenager of about eighteen, not legally qualified to contest for office in Nigeria. Yet the second republic came to an abrupt end when he was merely twenty two. In 1999, the independence child was thirty nine. At that age some of them took elective office as governors, deputy governors, legislators both at local state and federal levels. The question is for their thirty nine odd years from whom had they learnt any principle or practice of democracy as they virtually lived all their lives under the dictatorship of the military? If therefore majority of our politicians since 1999 behave like gangsters and indeed alienated from the people as “democrats”, it is now easy to know the cause: inexperience, lack of mentorship, lack of knowledge and vision.
No Nexus Between the Past and the Present
By 1999, there had been serious depletion of the rank and file of the first generation of our politicians. The few ones that were not by then dead, were too old and feeble for active participation in politics. The new entrants into politics of the current republic had nobody to rely on for political mentorship. At the dawn of the new republic in 1999, the teaching of history had virtually been wiped off our school system. Thus, the emerging politicians had no access to previous history and they had no contact with those that can orally tell them about their previous participations in the politics of the first, second and the third republics. At the dawn of politics in 1999, Nigerians were at the mercy of military made politicians, lacking in political experience and relevant political skills and knowledge. That the political system had wobbled but nevertheless sustained till today is more because years of military intervention in the political process of this country; had destroyed the image of soldiers as a modernizing or civilizing instrument in the political process of nation building.
Content of the Weekly Political Dialogue
Now that democracy has come to stay there is the need to prepare people for leadership, hence the establishment of Nations Leadership Institute with the School of Democratic Studies as one of the schools under the umbrella of the Institute. Governance, and here we mean good governance is too demanding to be left for the untrained both in learning and character. These people been churned out by this Institute today, have undergone trainings in a dialogue form which is participatory. The dialogue cover the followings: Making a career in politics, Media roles in an election, Vision, mission and ethics in a developing democracy, Government and public service, The roles of new media, Politics as a danger to democracy, Understanding the workings of political party, Kwara politics yesterday, today and tomorrow, Fund raising for political purpose, Understanding the socio/economic context of politics, How to win elections. All these topical issues were taken by highly experience politicians and well-grounded academics.

Ambassadors of a New Kwara
With this ceremony, that marks the end of the political dialogue, the participants in this program are now sent out to effect some changes in the political landscape of Kwara State in particular and Nigeria in general. With the knowledge garnered from this Institute, you are to be the ambassadors of this Institute. Even more than the certificate we give you today, let the demonstration of the knowledge, information and skill acquired from this Institute be the true certificate and testimonial that you have passed through this place. What you have now become can make you contest any elective office whether into the party offices, legislature and the Executive. You can with this skills too even function at the campaign directorate of any contestant that may need your skills.
Conclusion
I therefore congratulate the Graduands for this landmark achievements and urge you to go to the world to effect some positive changes. Let me thank most sincerely our resource persons for imparting knowledge to these participants of our dialogue programs and we sincerely appreciate those that have decided to honor our invitation to this program that is very important to us. God shall continue to bless you all abundantly.
Thank you for listening to me.
