Women's vaginas are like our guts and mouths. They've a mixture of good and bad bacteria. The bad is kept under control by the good. But certain conditions (eg stress) weakens us, allowing the bad bacteria to overpower the good, atleast temporarily. With the vagina, stress as well as a woman using certain soaps and chemicals to clean her vagina destroys the good bacteria, allowing the bad ones to flourish. Yeast infections are the result of bad bacteria taking over the vagina and doing their destructive work. But that bad bacteria is always there. Just kept in check by the good bacteria. So a woman doesn't get the infection but rather develops it.
