I feel your pain....am having this feelings that glo operators are using my data too
Look, what they do is they deduct a certain amount of your data when your data is turned off, try this and thank me later.
Check your data balance before you switch off your data connection then let say in 15-20 minutes you turn it on and see if it remains the same. MTN is usually culpable of this theft, I bundled 2 GB on my mtn line, checked before switching off it was 1.975gb, turn it on again it became 1.875 gb, 100 mb was deducted illegally from my mtn line.

Which reality? how many times do you see these telecom in Nigeria doing routine maintenance in your area, what they know is to put diesel into the generator and they're gone.
I have seen what's called routine maintenance in other countries, with high tax and their internet service is greater than that of Nigeria. If you care to know there was dumsor in Ghana close to 4 years just like what Nigeria is currently in but data was cheap and internet service very fast despite the fact the cost of diesel was very high and high taxes than Nigeria. Nigerians like too much irrelevant excuses.
How many base stations have you visit to see how maintenance work are done? Secondly, the aforementioned countries you mentioned cost of power isn't the same with ours incase you aren't aware. Telecom over here pay more to power their gadgets, they pay multiple taxes and they incurr other costs you aren't aware of. Thirdly, you fail to acknowledge that the aforementioned countries has a stronger currency when compared to ours; our currency continue to depreciate without any effort from the government to savalge the situation. Fourthly, You fail to acknowledge that those countries are small hence they can be easily covered whereas ours is large. Haven't you wonder why till date, the telecom operators haven't covered the nook and crannies of Nigeria? Till date, many areas are still using Edge whereas others haven't seen 4g LTE.Lastly, haven't you wonder why Etisalat and Vodacom left Nigeria..? It is easy to critic,it easy to compare countries with ours but the reality on ground shows that the environment of business in Nigeria isn't the same with Ghana and others.
Up till now, we are still battling with poor internet connectivity. Any, that research has some flaws especially the methodology.

They pay all these multiple taxes yet MTN currently celebrated profit of 100 billion naira than ever since they started business operations in Nigeria. I laugh you in Chinese.
Go and check countries with ease of doing business in Africa and would see the position of Nigeria since you are comparing and raising high flag of multiple taxes.
Also check the tax revenue and returns from each countries in Africa and see the position of Nigeria.

Your calculation turns out to be $25 per month.
Which is about N10,000 monthly. It's similar price&Data in UK.

Do you have N10,000 monthly to pay?
Hmm. Na money O.
N10k in Nigeria will still never give you unlimited talk and unlimited texts, not to talk of data. You still have to top up all the time.See the rip off.

.
You will be amazed to see how everybody in lagos will relocate to places like Oshogbo, Kogi and Ekiti to save on the price of data.

Depends on what you are doing with the 15 GB.

If you are streaming heavily like I do, 15GB won't last a month.

Anything goes in Nigeria.

Our leaders don't care if we are been swindled by these companies. Infact most of them teach these companies how to rip us off.once the Ghana must go reach them, the rest is history.

Take dstv as a case study.why in God's name is dstv not pay as you watch. In other countries it's applicable.some don't watch their dstv for up to 10 days in a month, but pay for the full package.

These are fundamental issues to be addressed. But we are always on line insulting each other because of politicians who don't care about us.

When I travelled to India, precisely chania. The hotel we lodged in,our subscription got finished. The guy just asked me to wait,he went and brought in another smart card from another room then slot it into our decoder and we where reconnected.

My brother and I asked him how manage he was able to do that.He told us that each room has its own different subscription. That since people don't always come around they decided to save cost through that means. In his own words "no watch no cost".

I pray we wake up from tribal hate and do away with mental slavery.only then will our country move forward.

There's difference between light off and light out.
Light off, maybe a technical fault from your area or maybe need to recharge but light out, there's no light which is the one we experience in Nigeria.
Just imagine a country that depends on us oh.

I have never been to Ghana before, but have had about the country. It'd really disheartening to see the way we are suffering in Nigeria. We have all it takes to develop this nation.but we have kleptomaniac as leaders.

How exactly does Ghana depend on us? We do not give Ghana electricity if that is what you are thinking? All we do is sell gas to them, which they use to power electricity, alongside their working dams. Don't blame Ghana for the useless and incompetent leadership we have had over the years.

America has one of the most expensive internet in the world..

Don't mind people who take headlines in on nairaland as gospel truth and articles from unsubstantiated reports.

I am typing this from Houston and my internet is $45 (21k) for unlimited and download speed of 75Mbps for a fibre connection (xfinity), which is the cheapest bundle I could get. In Lagos, my broad based fibre service is N10K for unlimited data at 10Mbps speed.

You can argue that they earn better there, true but living expenses are also higher here. I save more in Nigeria than US. Here you make more money, but even with $10k a month salary, if you are not careful, you will not keep $1000 back every month.

I didn't blame Ghana from my statement. In fact I was complimenting them.A country that gets gas from us to use to power their electricity is doing well.that was the point I was trying to portray.

N100 billion profit is a result of large economies of scale ie large subscriber base. Would you say so for other operators?

Bossman:
Things are still a little different, and that sure does attribute to the cost of internet in Nigeria. For example, in Nigeria almost all internet access is via mobile data/network. While, in most other places internet access is via wired fiber optics. So every home/apartment here has a wired network coming in that connects to a router. And the router supplies the rest of the house. So it's cheaper to have unlimited internet. Everything runs off the internet, so unlimited is a must! So until Nigeria gets to that point, the cost of internet access will continue to be high.
Via wired fiber optics has nothing to do with it, it is more expensive to get license in fiber optics than mobile data /network, more expensive to maintain than the other which is cheap yet expensive in the part of our world.
The one we have access to it is still expensive when in those advanced countries that has access to it like us it is cheap compared to us particularly in Nigeria.
