For a very long time, females in Igbo land were forbidden from inheriting their late father’s properties, however, that has now changed.
In a landmark decision, the Supreme Court upheld the right of females to inherit the properties of her late father.

The apex court, thus, has voided the Igbo age-long law and custom which forbid a female child from inheriting her late father’s estate, on the grounds that it is discriminatory and conflicts with the provision of the constitution.
