I went to visit her, the one I called friend,
To celebrate the gift of adding a new age.

Met her crying,
She said,"I think I am a failure, it's like I've not achieved anything. My mom is on neck to provide grandchildren for her, there's no man, she has not introduced me to"

The painful one out of everything was, KELECHI that decided to test my competency, my "wife materialism" as he termed it.
I went for a visit cause of mom's pressure,
Only for him to tell me that we're visiting his parents.
I was nervous girl, seeing his parents was like a huge mile for me.

While we were all discussing, I apologized for not coming with a gift,that I wasn't duly informed.

His mom smirked
Then she said, if you don't mind me asking,
"how can a beautiful lady like you still be single, I think it's either you have a bad character or among the girls of today that puts their careers first"
I was speechless,
Sensing my mood, she said never mind.
I tried not to dwell on it much .

That night, we had family prayers like they termed it.
The pastor was asked to purify me, in case there's any evil hovering around me so as not to infect them, should we marry.
Didi, you know I love to eat, but I couldn't eat to my satisfaction.
His mom watches me like a hawk, complaining over every morsel of food that enters my mouth.

I've been bearing the whole snide remarks, cause the pressure to settle down was already much.
So, there I was laying on the couch ,with a glass of juice and was going over the reports my PA sent .
When his mom came in, and in her usual manner , said to me, "woman to woman,I don't know what my son saw in you, you're not his type in anyway, you're already on your way to menopause, or are you interested in the family's legacy. Why do you want to turn my family into a laughing stock. Please do me the favor and leave us alone"

I couldn't take it anymore, I lashed out to her.
I told her " you and your son should be eternally grateful that I was about to come into your llives. I'm a full package, and I damn will create my own legacy than chase after a dead one"
She got mad and slapped me on my left cheek,

I saw red, but I held myself

Looking at her right in the eyes, I said "I know what I'm capable for, I know what I bring to the goddamn table, so never will I subject myself to marital oppression, I rather die single."

I left and went to pack my stuff.

KELECHI came back, heard he shouting...
