AlabaConnect or what is your name? there is no iota of greed in pricing a tokunbo electronics in any amount of your choice, I pray you experience this one of this days and you will never forgive your tribe when other tribes are sleepless duping foreigners and not Nigerians like them.

@mabeni

Budgeting a whopping 55k for a tokumbo sound system is not a wise thought. That amount will get you a brand new home theater with peace of mind considering all the stress and humiliation you went through.

Spending such amount for an item that was probably thrown off by the first user maybe due to some faults you know not is waste of fund.

Next time, get a brand new item within your budget that would come with a warranty without stress from certified electronic shops.

Tokumbo electronics are a waste of funds most times.

embarassedi went to Alaba international market to buy a set of Tokunbo Home Theatre. Luckily/ unfortunately for me i asked around and i was directed to a shop where i would find my choice. I got to the shop and i specifically told them I want a SAMSUNG Home Theater and the search began. They tested 3 diferrent sets but the last one got my attention and I asked for the price.

The seller (shop owner) told me it was 55k and i negotiated it to 25k and he asked me pay. I requested for his account details but he declined saying he doesn't take transfers. I quickly went to use POS, came back and asked for the SAMSUNG SETS i had priced be tested to avoid foul play. It was tested and i confirmed it. I paid, receipt was issued to me but without going through my receipt, I wrote my name and signed because i never suspected scam.

Now, it was time for me to leave with my purchases and the boy boy told me "the engine/DVD to the home theater i bought does not support or work with electricity but strictly works for only generator ". I asked him to repeat himself and he did. The statement didn't make sense to me. He then suggested he could swap the engine/DVD of the SAMSUNG Home Theater i bought for another one that uses electricity. I sensed foul play and asked him why he didn't tell me these before making payment.

Note: the owner of the shop had gone out when boy boy was telling me this.
Luckily, he came back to meet us arguing. I narrated what his boy told me about the sound system they sold for me he affirmed to it that the engine/DVD doesn't use electricity. I got confused and demanded for a refund. These guys refused. Insisting I take another DVD...i refused either that i preferred what i bought. They refused me going with what I bought. This infuriated a lot of noise and here comes in an elderly man who claimed to be the landlord of the shop.

He asked me what was wrong, i told him and he slapped the Boy boy. At this point, i knew I was being scammed but was helpless as well. It was just only me against Alaba boys. The elderly man asked me to calm down that he was there to help me out bla bla bla and requested to see the receipt that was issued to me me. Lo and behold, the subwoofer and the other 3 small speakers was not included in the receipt. They only wrote the engine/DVD they claimed doesn't use nepa light and even boldly put NO WOOFER & NO SPEAKERS. (indirect or indirectly, i only paid 25k for just the DVD player )

The truth was, i never saw these errors before the arrival of the elderly man. he pointed out the errors and finally told me they don't refund money in ALABA that it was all a trick and the trick was for me to pay any amount cos the sound system i bought was more than 25k that i would have to add more money for me to go with it. I insisted i don't have more money to add and they insisted i take a Chinese product. I no gree.

To cut it short, i finally found out the elderly man was part of them. His job was to distract and calm their victim down. At the end of it all, i only got the subwoofer and 3 small speakers. The ENGINE/DVD was not given to me.

This was my sad experience today in the hands of some heartless Nigerians.

Do I even have time to get it down with you? Nay! You can hug a transformer if you are pained. Please stop quoting me...
Upon the warnings that scam knows no tribe, you are hell bent on blacklisting the Ibos. Do I tell you my encounter in Computer Village in 2016. Where in broad day light and on two different occasions, I was scammed by Yoruba guys. I have noticed something about some of you Yoruba’s here. Not all, but minority among you people. Why do you guys like labelling others bad.

You hardly see Ibo people tainting you people the way you do them. If people begin to give account of their bad experiences with scammers from your tribe, many of you won’t like it. Scam know no tribe, as a matter of fact it is a Nigerian syndrome that has eaten deep into our fabrics.

The first time I was scam was when I went to buy a Laptop in Computer village. Despite the warnings not to patronize those without shops, I foolishly bargained with one dude they call Taiwo. I paid him cash and he gave me receipt for a used I Core 3. It was when I got home that I began dancing to the music. I tried switching on the Laptop on, kole work. To the extent of running back to Computer village the next day to complain to the guy. You’re even lucky that you can complain to taskforce in Alaba. In my own case, the Taiwo denied ever meeting me, neither selling any item to me. The other of his colleagues supported him and that was how the case ended. I even had to take the Laptop to a repairer within that axis to repair, but lo and behold, when he opened the Lapi, it was filled with loosed wires and dead panel.

Is it the second time again in 2017, same Computer village. Oga take time o. Everyone have had bad experience with scammers irrespective of tribe. Stop that holier than thou attitude you dey display here.

Oga keep your tribalistic mouth shut!

I WAS PLAYED THE SAME GAME!

MINE WAS EVEN 50" TV SAMSUNG THE ROOKIE EVEN TOOK ME TO 3 DIFFERENT SHOPS SELLING TOKUMBO VERSION OF SAME TV I CAME TO BUY BRAND NEW AND HE CONVINCED ME TO BUY TOKUMBO AT VERY LOW PRICE.

THE STORY LONG SHA - I EVEN ONCE WANTED TO WRITE ABOUT MY EXPERIENCE HERE BUT LAZINESS NEVER ALLOWED ME.

I LOST 75K TO THEM IN SIMILAR GAME OF GIVING ME RECEIPT AND AFTER I MADE TRANSFER THE OGA LEFT AND THE BOY START CODING ME BY TELLING ME THE PROBLEM WITH THE TV THAT I DID NOT NOTICE.

LAST LAST SHA! I LEFT THE TV FOR THEM AND GO.

ALL OF THEM ARE YORUBAS AND THEY ARE ALL SAME GANG FROM THE FIRST SHOP THE IDIOT TOOK ME TO, TILL THE LAST ONE.

AND THE FUNNY THING IS - ALL THE SURROUNDING SHOPS KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE DOING BUT ARE AFRAID TO CONFRONT THEM BECAUSE THEY ARE ALL CULTISTS.

one guy i told about my experience in alaba there even told me they have killed some shop owners for trying to expose them to the public - he went further to tell me that the chairman of the alaba market gan is in the same cult with them and they always settle police thats why no police will follow you to the market to make any arrest.

THEY ARE SO MUCH IN ALABA, COMPUTER VILLAGE AND BALOGUN MARKET OPERATING SHOPS JUST TO SCAM PEOPLE AND NO BODY IS ARRESTING THEM.

You did nothing wrong, however in future don't buy anything from informal traders especially alaba market.

Majority of those shopowners are crooks and scammers. Buy your electronic products from authorise reseller, it might be expensive but you will have peace of mind and warranty.

You sef no try. In Nigeria you have to have an idea of the price of what you want. Something of 55k you priced 25k and they agreed, that was where your wahala started. These traders you can't just beat them at their dirty game. Sorry you hear. Next time know your Market 101, which is:
1. Nigeria is a jungle
2. Traders no get joy
3. Have an idea of the price of what you want.
4. With 3 in mind, don't price stupidly. If you even price 2k, some will accept but be sure it's only wire you will go home with.
5. Price in 3 places and settle for one. Never buy in the first place you prized.
Don't mind him. He was too DESPERATE!!!!
Never be too desperate for ANYTHING.
He couldn't even spare 30 mins to check the price from store to store to get an idea.
No.
Just the FIRST store he entered! Straight to ATM to withdraw cash.

This clearly shows you're also running the same scam.what is greed there!
If a buyer bargain for a certain stuff, and the seller is not okay with the pricing,he can just turn down the price and tell the buyer to try next shop, not to scam him.You guys(alaba boys) have been running this scam for a long time.
In 2012,I dashed my home theater out, then proceeded to Alaba market to buy another set.The guys tested it for me,we agreed on a price, and the gen was switched off.A receipt was written for me,I signed and paid.Told them to wrap it for me,..lo and behold...I was told that I bought woofer only!.
Then the arguments started,I was told to read my receipt,WOOFER only was what was written on the receipt.WTF.
I told them to return my money that I'm not buying again,(for where).I even told them that I will pay 1k for the receipt,(no way).I had to settle with a small home theater system.

Sorry for your experience, I work at Alaba and I ve been scammed twice at the same Alaba by someone I never expected.

Please whenever you're buying these things always go to the company direct and try as much to avoid fairly use.

I know some very good new Home theatre than can go for 25k or less. Going for Samsung or LG is very risky because we have fake all around. Just go to the approved dealers or the company's sales outlet.

Isn't it funny that other criminals alike are blaming the Op and accusing him of being greedy ? This is what happens when certain people see criminality as normal or legitimate means of livelihood.

I won't blame any Igbo person for committing crimes like this one after all, we should have known by now that it is their normal way of life. They see it as being smart ! How would you blame people that want out of Nigeria but looks like they are being forced to remain Nigerians. It can only be sensible if Igbo people, who seem to have criminality well embedded in their DNA,are allowed to have their own country. They won't change from their 'normal' way of life. They are the ones soiling Nigerians reputation in South Africa,Ghana,Malaysia,India,Indonesia, U S,UK,in fact everywhere ! Igbo are security threat in Nigeria, the earlier the government realises it,the better ! Give them Biafra !

@Op, I find it quite appalling that you want to let this crime slide just like that ? Well a gentleman like you, what would you do ? I truly understand. This is why it sometimes pains me that stuff like this happens to people like you. I have,on several occasions, gone round Alaba,Ladipo and computer village just to have a first hand experience of what these people do to unsuspecting Nigerians on a daily basis but it has not happened to me yet. I guess some of them suspected that I was snooping around for trouble so they often acted like decent and honest business men whenever I showed up at their shop to make a "purchase".

Igbo traders in Lagos will soon have a serious problem if they refuse to change from their criminal ways ! I hope someone is listening.
