Geophysics: We only eye oil and gas for this. Its even sometimes limited to upstream/exploration and organisation’s carrying out operations like seismic studies, drilling, mining etc.

Mechanical: No limitations in terms of joining an engineering organisation but has too many branches unlike geophysics that might be somehow streamlined

A geophysicist is not an engineer (except geophysic engineering) so when calling for engineers for a particular opening he/she might not be included

Pray and do more due diligence before picking one. If you have a relation in any of the particular industries Its better you ask her/him so he can easily help when securing a job and others

. He is very good in Algebra and physics. I don't if mech is ok for him. He is 26 this Nov

let him go for mechanical engineering. There are so many opportunities for a mechanical engineer in different sector regarding job opportunity.
