I've read through a few of the comments here and while I've seen a few valid points brought up..

The overall issue remains this..

Most of the back and forth arguments here don't even hold any solid basis...

Points like the increment in the cost of import duties can be checked and confirmed at any custom office or using any other appropriate body...

So if you don't believe then do your due diligence and confirm..
Dont just sit at home and cast aspersions on things you know nothing about..

Knowledge is power and information is at your fingertips..

Then the issue of always dragging dealers is even a cause for worry..

True some dealers are quite inconsiderate and greedy but then again you do not use that to stereotype dealers in general.. It's wrong on so many levels..

Then I think above someone listed some cars for sale and showed the differences in price then and now..
I'm still trying to understand how he came up with his own values..

Strive to focus on the situation on ground...

And also in respects to our brother using google to calculate exchange rate..

I dont know who you are but it's not really advisable.
The reason being asides the fact that the values there 99% of the time are not applicable to real life situations

They also include a disclaimer which you should try to read one of these days..

I remember sometime last year when Google came up with the ridiculous idea that $1 was equal to NGN107..

Thank you all and let's have a fulfilling night's rest.

Shalom

Bros, you're talking rubbish. Dollar isn't #400 anywhere. In fact, right now, USD is #450. If you have the right sources, you may be able to get at #430 or so for a direct international transfer.

Stop talking about things you have no idea of. Not like I expected much from you, Legalwealth.

Stop backpedaling. When you created the thread, your point was cars are expensive when usd is 383. You've edited it, of course.

Rest, bros.

You are not very intelligent.
You run a business that largely depends on referrals and you're here making outlandish claims, causing your fellow naive ppl to call your fellow businessmen who you need their referrals names.
Ppl have been asking you where you got your own $ at 383 but you've been dodging that question.
I will personally buy from you at N400/$,up to 10k $,if you have, PM me

I have dollars for sale though. But $450. Dollars is so hard to find now. Banks are even refusing to release dollars.

To cut the long story short: In all, Cars are expensive due to so many factors, I didn't talk about buying dollar from banks, and black market, so please let's stay on course.

You started on the premise that despite the availability of dollar at N383, dealers were still fleecing buyers. It was a damning indictment on dealers and an insult to many honest men looking for their daily bread just like you. You were called out and educated.
Don't change the goal post. It will be better if you take down this thread and start another with a simple question; "why are tokunbo cars expensive?".
It is an honest question and probably people will drop their comments.
As it is, this thread is meeeehhhh.
Do not see me as your enemy, I come in peace. Cheers.

I think a lot of people tend to be very dramatic instead of correcting an uninformed opinion we start using uncomplimentary words.

All we need to do is to tell OP to pick and link any car online with a sales price.
Add about $1200 for shipping to Nigeria
Add 78-100% import duty which is same price as purchase price..
Convert total cost to naira on abokifx
And then find a listed vehicle compared to that for sale in Nigeria.
The profit will be far less than the taxes paid on the imported vehicle

This!
The original premise was incredibly flawed. If he came out to ask why toks cars are expensive, I'd probably be able to point out that the US used car market is actually booming right now due to a myriad of reasons.

Framing it as contingent on the official price of the dollar made the entire thread worthless.

It isn't only in Nigeria that car prices have gone up; it's a general trend. Oil prices have also risen, which means that in any case, there is inflation.
I also bought a car (though it was my third purchase), and also since the beginning of the year, I had inflation, though it didn't affect the cost. Although I don't argue that we get cars with lower speed for the higher price, Mid Night Club has never had this problem. The guys have been tuning their cars and spending a fortune on them.
Well, it's great that there are people who pay that much money for a car! So there is a demand.
