Studies show that learning a language helps in brain development. Thus, people who can speak more than one language generally tend to be smarter than their counterparts who only speak one language. Africa is a multi-lingual continent. The average African speaks at least one form of a foreign language (English, French, Spanish, German Portuguese, even pidgin, etc.) in addition to his/her mother tongue. This is obviously due to the influence of colonialism.
But in the western world, most people speak just their mother tongue, although a few others actually take the time to learn one or two other languages.
Learning a language early in life helps to sharpen the intellect, and this is what happens with most Africans. This actually provides the reason an African man is more likely to be smarter than his oyibo counterpart.
But the narrative has been to the contrary. The ordinary oyibo man regards the African as dumb, and at worst a monkey. Well, the reason for this denigration is not far-fetched since the environment of underdevelopment, amidst political instability has made most Africans unable to maximize their potentials.
But most Africans excel abroad, even more than their host, when they are given the opportunities which they lacked in their home country; and this is a clear proof to the fact that Africans are not dumb after all, but actually smarter.

#1: Not true, many westerners esp Europeans know more than one language. Besides, European languages have been more studied and researched than their African counterparts. Some of which have been projected to die out in the future.

#2: That happens because it is the best set/top of the cream Africans that migrate. The costs associated with migration deters most people thus, who amass the required funds ensure to make something out of it. If a system requires you to write series of exams, send documents, pay flight tickets, exhibit evidence of being able to bore living costs etc., and you get in, it implies you are in the top 10% of the population. If it was that easy or free to migrate, everyone will. In my opinion, anyone who emigrated from Nigeria is not a poor person based on the economic situation in the country.

That said, if Africans are indeed smarter than Europeans/Americans, they should develop their lands so that those opportunities they flee to seek can be made available in their countries. Chinese, Singaporeans, Japanese, Koreans, Malaysians etc. did it. Even Vietnamese are doing it. You cannot be going to your neighbor's house to eat, get sheltered, money and medications yet claim to be smarter than the person. If you were so smart, you should have done same in your house.
