And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Eklessia; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
Matthew 16:18

Jesus askes a question, "who do you say I am"? And then also calls himself the builder, who was going to build his people.
We know also that his ministry on earth served as a corner stone in that foundation. The following verses shed more light to it.
And yes Jesus was referring to the revelation and ministry of the apostle as the rock.

To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious, Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.
1 Peter 2:5

Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God; And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;
Ephesians 2:20

Jesus said, "I will build my people upon the revelation God has given you about me and the gates of hell shall not prevail against my people"

Understand the following:
1. The revelation of who Jesus really is, is extremely important.
2. The role of the apostles and prophets is very important as the ones who witness and testify to that revelation.

Who are the gates of hell?

My dear children, you belong to God, so you have already prevailed against these false prophets. That’s because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.
1 John 4:4

The gates of hell are false prophets
Gates are passageways that lead people somewhere

We know through holy scriptures that God has led his people through His prophets, it becomes a serious problem when people get mislead and deceived that's why Jesus said;

Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
Matthew 7:15

And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.
Matthew 24:11
For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.
Matthew 24:24

There are false prophets in world and when you look physical at them you see two things:
1. Sheep clothing, which is synonymous to humility.
2. Miracles

So you meet a prophet and you see his humility, the miracles, and then you conclude, this is a true prophet of God.

Zechariah 13:4 tells us that there are prophets who dress to deceive, so as to convince us of their prophetic ministry. Your man of god dresses to impress you, please be careful.

When we look at the word
Ravening: Eagerness for plunder; rapacity; extortion. Also means aggression, and as a verb, to seize by violence.

False humility; Colossians 2:6-23
One of the major evils of false prophets is that they would seem to deliver you from demons and bad problems but led you into greater captivity and bondage through deception and error.

They love to preach the law, in a way that doesn't reveal grace, as form of control and there are those who preach grace and neglect teaching the law of the Spirit that reveals Christ and God's love.

A man of God who teaches you to seize it by violence is of the devil who is the violent.

When the message contradicts what Jesus and the apostles taught, that is a massive red flag that you have encountered a gate to hell.

A false prophet will show false humility to ensare you and ensure you don't leave, but when you offend them or cut through their garment of sheep you will find the wolf in them. The aggressive, pay back rebuttal personality that they possess, which does not observe the word Jesus teaches of turn the other side.

Their false humility will lead you into rigorous religious activities that neither bring peace nor rest in your soul. Laws and prophetic commands that burden the people rather than help them, all to satisfy their greed for prosperity, power and popularity.
You will find yourself worshipping that prophet and not God, fighting for that prophet and speaking as his prophet (well he is a god to you now), regularly quoting him and paying little to no reference to scripture.

Wolves move in packs, so don't be surprised if they have other wolves supporting them. Their aim is to devour the sheep, to take what little the sheep have and build their empires and kingdoms with it.

Deuteronomy 13:1-4 tells us that it is the message and not the miracles that reveals if a minister is from God or not.

A prophet of God, speaks not out of his will but speaks what God tells him or her to say.

2 Peter 1:20-21
Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation of things. For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

Then the LORD said unto me, The prophets prophesy lies in my name: I sent them not, neither have I commanded them, neither spoke unto them: they prophesy unto you a false vision and divination, and a thing of nought, and the deceit of their heart.

Jeremiah 14:14
Re: The Gates Of Hell: Are You Being Led To Hell? by BlueAngel444: 12:16pm On Sep 25, 2020
Jesus did not say beware of babalawos, or native doctors or magicians and sorcerers. He didn't even say in those days witches and wizard will be many, also the book of revelation spoke of false prophets.

If the true revelation of Jesus leads people to God, then a false revelation and lies will lead people to destruction.

In Matthew 7 just before verse 15 where he warns us to beware of false prophets, he speaks about gates in verses 13 and 14.

False prophets are likened to broad gates that lead to destruction. And they represent religion and they are easy to find, very popular among people.
Speaking of false prophets, John writes
They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.
1 John 4:5

Woe be unto the pastors that destroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture! saith the LORD.
Jeremiah 23:1

And I have seen folly in the prophets of Samaria; they prophesied in Baal, and caused my people Israel to err.
Jeremiah 23:13 (prophets with poor scriptural understanding and who do not know God)

I have seen also in the prophets of Jerusalem an horrible thing: they commit adultery, and walk in lies: they strengthen also the hands of evildoers, that none doth return from his wickedness; they are all of them unto me as Sodom, and the inhabitants thereof as Gomorrah.
Jeremiah 23:14 (prophets who support evil and wicked politicians and parade them on their platforms)

I have not sent these prophets, yet they ran: I have not spoken to them, yet they prophesied.
Jeremiah 23:21

But if they had stood in my counsel, and had caused my people to hear my words, then they should have turned them from their evil way, and from the evil of their doings.
Jeremiah 23:22

I have heard what the prophets said, that prophesy lies in my name, saying, I have dreamed, I have dreamed.
Jeremiah 23:25

How long shall this be in the heart of the prophets that prophesy lies? yea, they are prophets of the deceit of their own heart;
Jeremiah 23:26

Which think to cause my people to forget my name by their dreams which they tell every man to his neighbour, as their fathers have forgotten my name for Baal.
Jeremiah 23:27

In 2 Peter 2:1-3

But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.
And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.
And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.

Jesus said give to those in need but all you do is give to a man who promises you magical wealth. You are not practicing the scripture but the word of a man who is not of God.

Stop picking verses out of context. The content of the book was written and expressed in human language by humans such as your person, and so it ought to be read and comprehended in much the same way you would any human language out there. And in every human language, context is Key!

The Truth of God as written only applies when read in context. Otherwise, you have nothing but lies/untruths.

It is wrong to pick a verse out of context. Those who are false prophets are wrong in doing so and it is certainly wrong for us to attempt such

Matthew 16 vs 13-20 (ERV)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
13. Jesus went to the area of Caesarea Philippi. He said to his followers, “Who do people say I am[b]?”
14. They answered, “Some people say you are John the Baptizer. Others say you are Elijah. And some say you are Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”
15. Then Jesus said to his followers, “And who do you say I am?”
16. Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”
17. Jesus answered, “You are blessed, Simon son of Jonah. No one taught you that. My Father in heaven showed you who I am.
18. So I tell you, you are Peter.[c] And I will build my church on this rock. The power of death[d] will not be able to defeat my church.
19. I will give you the keys to God’s kingdom. When you speak judgment here on earth, that judgment will be God’s judgment. When you promise forgiveness here on earth, that forgiveness will be God’s forgiveness.”[e]
20. Then Jesus warned his followers not to tell anyone he was the Messiah.

Call it what you want but try to insert the entire context into your OP and see how it changes the meaning in what you posted.
