"Our staff is available to assist mothers and babies throughout the entire flight" promises the Egypt Air website.

Air Crew got more than they signed up for on board the Egypt Air flight MS777 from Cairo to London on 21 September, when a passenger went into labour on board the flight and gave birth to a baby girl. The Captain, on hearing the news of a premature birth, diverted the flight to Munich, however the baby girl beat the Boeing 737's arrival to the airport.

Luckily, a doctor was on board the flight to help deliver the baby safely, and as far as we know, both mother (Yemeni woman Hiyam Nasr Naji Daaban) and daughter are well.

Egypt Airlines immediately released a tweet celebrating the good news, announcing free life time travel for its unexpected new passenger. It quickly clarified that the gift would be limited to free life time travel to Munich. Still an extraordinarily generous and valuable gift.

It also raises an interesting question - what nationality will be recorded on the baby's birth certificate? A Yemeni mother; an Egyptian aircraft, in German airspace?
