NLC Calls Off Strike by yicob(m): 10:27pm On Jun 23, 2007
Latest news from channels 10pm say the strike has finally being halted. Thank GOD.
Re: NLC Calls Off Strike by Rajj(m): 10:36pm On Jun 23, 2007
Just saw this on CHANNELS, still yet to find out if the price of fuel is back to N65.
I guess the suspension of the strike should be an outcome from the most recent meeting between NLC and the Govt.
Re: NLC Calls Off Strike by kokoA(m): 10:40pm On Jun 23, 2007
kai! who tell you? I heard the news to, they said that there are indications that it would be called off soon because the president have finally waded into the crisis. The meeting is still on. Nigerians, lets keep our fingers crossed!
Re: NLC Calls Off Strike by mrofficial(m): 10:42pm On Jun 23, 2007
Same with me, i don't think the fuel price can be reduced to 65 naira, maybe 68 naira sha. wink
Re: NLC Calls Off Strike by justkunmi(m): 10:51pm On Jun 23, 2007
the price of fuel is not what really matters, it is the availability. . .
wat is the point of 65 naira if there would still be long queues??
Re: NLC Calls Off Strike by yicob(m): 10:51pm On Jun 23, 2007
Fuel price still N70 per litre. Then why the strike?
Re: NLC Calls Off Strike by mrofficial(m): 10:57pm On Jun 23, 2007

70 naira, during last 3 weeks, did your buy fuel for 70 naira per litre?
Re: NLC Calls Off Strike by McKren(m): 10:59pm On Jun 23, 2007
Honestly NLC has some explanations to do

They went on strike for the sake of it, if there is anything Yaradua will learn from this strike it is not to make concessions early in a disagreement.

Why did NLC bring the nation to a halt for two days without achieving anything?

To be honest, I thought the strike was unnecessary. The only necessary thing NLC should push for is local production of petrol.

A fixed price of 65, 70 or 75 Naira is meaningless if the pump price at filling stations is from 80 to 150 naira.
Re: NLC Calls Off Strike by Fadajasi(m): 11:10pm On Jun 23, 2007
Yes,the strike is over now but i dont think NLC should end it very early, the price is stil at N70,why the strike in the first place,i dont think it is rite to call it off nw.
Re: NLC Calls Off Strike by DisGuy: 11:13pm On Jun 23, 2007

Re: NLC Calls Off Strike by Mustay(m): 11:23pm On Jun 23, 2007
Kudos to nlc 4 d reasonable negotiation.
You guys 've excluded the fact that government also agreed not to alter d price of PMS for 12 months. If government reduced d price to 65 Naira and followed due process as labour wanted, the price 'll still go up in 3 months time.
They've made a very good deal outta this. Infact, govt has agreed to 80% of d demands
Re: NLC Calls Off Strike by McKren(m): 11:26pm On Jun 23, 2007
the issue is that govt agreed to 90% of the demands before they proceeded to strike, so why the strike?
Re: NLC Calls Off Strike by Mustay(m): 11:35pm On Jun 23, 2007
75 not 90! Where do you get your info from?

I dont believe in quoting Newspaper without asking questions

This is what FG made of Labour demands
Increment in Kerosene (removed totally)
Increment in diesel (removed totally)
Increment in VAT (removed totally)
15% increment in workers salary (agreed to take effect from January 1)
10N Increment in Petrol reduced to N5

That looks to me like granting 4.5 of 5 demands

(4.5 / 5) * 100 % = 90%

not 75%
Re: NLC Calls Off Strike by 9ja4eva: 11:57pm On Jun 23, 2007
Not a bad deal

Why nt N65 only?
Re: NLC Calls Off Strike by Mustay(m): 12:05am On Jun 24, 2007
Me sef dey read different newspapers to ensure say i correct.
But am sorry, you didn't include d sale of refineries cos they were told to meet BPE which wasn't okay with them.

@ 9ja d price can't come to 65. If it had come, it'll eventually reduce.
The president writing a personal letter to labour and assuring them that no matter what international prices are, govt won't alter petrol price.
It's not a winner takes all situation as sgf said on tv some minutes ago but it was apparent the labour leaders are disgusted with PPPRA

Re: NLC Calls Off Strike by Mustay(m): 12:38am On Jun 24, 2007
9ja4, pms is 70. TUC and labour leaders were with kingibe to sign the agreement.
When a journalist asked "doesn't it mean at the end of d day, labour still succumbed to 70?"
nlc president responded that they should all study d agreements well.
Govt has expressed interest to include labour in d deals too
Re: NLC Calls Off Strike by savesoul(m): 12:46am On Jun 24, 2007
it shows Dialogue is Better that Violence.
South Africa is still on Strike third week running now.
Even though it is 70 naira per litre, it is better
all we hope for is increase in pay to cover the VAT
