Hi guys, I need your help. Got married 2016 and for some reasons I need to get divorced asap. The marriage was contracted at ikoyi registry and I don't know if I can file for the divorce here in Ibadan.


Also, if you have a lawyer ( or you're a lawyer) who can help me facilitate the divorce quickly I'll appreciate. I don't want expensive lawyer oo and I don't want drama from anybody. Just the divorce alone. Thanks

First, there is nothing like "divorce quickly" for it is a process that must be strictly followed. Secondly, a lawyer can initiate it in Ibadan even though you conducted your marriage in Lagos.

For all other issues, your lawyer would address them

There is no quick and easy divorce. Divorce takes atleast 2years. That is if your partner is even willing. For cheap, hold N300k first. Next case!

thanks for your comment. But how about the ones we read in the papers in customary courts and all that. It doesn't seem to take much time and money once both parties agree to it. Do you know if it's possible to take that route ?

how about the customary courts? It appears faster and cheaper if both parties agree to the divorce. Do you know if I can go through that channel with my ikoyi registry registered wedding. ABI shey I no buy market bayi

It is a case of attempting to use a scissors to cut a ship's anchor cable, it would not be valid.

Customary court's dissolution is applicable ONLY to those married under customary law ALONE that is,. Traditional Marriages Alone.

It is inapplicable when the parties married under BOTH the Customary law ( traditional marriages) and thereafter under the Marriage Act, that is marriage done in the Marriage Registry, as people normally do.

The second you engaged in a marriage performed at the Marriage Registry, you can only obtain dissolution from the High Court and not Customary Court.

Satan is at work. It is ok to divorce but what is the urgency? Better be careful not to make speedy decisions and mistake like the first time.
