Ahead of Champions League group stage match between Juventus and Barcelona, we take a look at the thirteen players that have played for both teams during their careers.
1. Juan Pablo Sorin
The former Argentine played as left back or left midfielder during his career and he was nicknamed Juampi. Sorín began his career playing in the lower division of the Argentine league for Argentinos Juniors , a Buenos Aires football club. He also captained the Argentina Under-20 side who won the 1995 FIFA World Youth Championship played in Qatar.
After the tournament, his contract was bought by Juventus but he failed to establish himself into the team and had a total of four appearances under manager Marcelo Lippi. Sorin was acquired by FC Barcelona after he occupied the non-EU quota along with Juan Román Riquelme and Roberto Bonano . He made his Spanish League debut on 9 February 2003. The match was between Barcelona and Athletic de Bilbao and ended 2–2. He spent half a season with the Catalans before he moved away to PSG.
2. Martin Caceres
The Uruguan professional played mainly as a central defender and can also play on either flank, mostly as a right back. Cáceres joined Barcelona on 4 June 2008 from Villarreal, with a reported transfer fee of €16.5 million. A buyout clause of €50 million was inserted in the deal, which ran until June 2012. He was sparsely used at the Catalan club and was the fourth choice stopper behind Marquez, Pique, Puyol.
Caceres was loaned out to Juventus after a poor spell at Barcelona August 6, 2009. The league season began well for Caceres as he scored a goal on his debut, netting the opener in a 2–0 away win against Lazio. He began as a regular under Manager Ciro Ferrara, but his campaign was disrupted by a number of injuries, including one in January 2010 that put him out of action for several months.
3. Zlatan lbrahimovic
The Sweden international player is often regarded as the best striker of his generation due to his agility and goal scoring prowess. Ibrahimović moved from Ajax to Juventus for €16 million in 2004. He was promptly inserted into the starting eleven due to top scorer David Trezeguet's injury problems. He impressed in his first season and scored 16 goals. The club finished top of Serie A, and in the Champions League they reached the quarterfinals before being knocked out by eventual champions Liverpool.
In 2009-10 season, Barcelona exchanged Samuel Eto for Ibrahimovic plus a reported fee of £69 million. He had a good season finishing with 11 goals and 4 assists in Barcelona's first 15 league matches in 2009. Barcelona capped off the year by winning the 2009 FIFA Club World Cup against Estudiantes on 19 December 2009. His fallout with manager, Pep Guardiola ultimately showed him the way out of the Catalan club.
4. Gianluca Zambrotta
The Italian former footballer played as a full back or as a wide midfielder. Half way through the 1999 Italian season, he was bought by Juventus and was expected in Turin the next season. After the transfer to Juventus on 1 July 1999, Zambrotta continued his upward momentum under manager Carlo Ancelotti. He made 32 league appearances with one goal in the first season he played for Juventus. He was a regular first team player all through his stay at the Turin side.
On 4 August 2006, after his holiday following the 2006 World Cup, Zambrotta reported to his new club Barcelona for the first time in Los Angeles, where Barça were staying for their pre-season tour in North America. In his two season with the club, he made a total of 58 appearance scoring 3 goals before his return to Italy.
5. Arturo Vidal
The Chilean is a fierce box to box midfielder and he is nicknamed 'The Warrior' due to his aggressive nature and hard tackling. Vidal joined Juventus for €10.5 million on a five-year contract. He scored on the first competitive debut in the opening league game of the season against Parma. He was an integral part of the 2011–12 Scudetto winning side that went undefeated the entire season under Antonio Conte.
Barcelona unveiled Vidal on August 3 penning a three years contract. He scored quite a handful number of goals for the Catalan side. He gave their midfield the power and energy. His last match was against his previous club, Bayern Munich who humiliated Barcelona in a 8-2 champions league defeat.
6. Lilian Thuram
The retired French international was the most capped player in the history of the country. He was signed in 2001 from Parma and formed formidable partners along the likes of Cannavaro, Zebini, Zambrotta and others to conquer Italy. He spent five years at the Turin side before moving to Barcelona after Juventus were relegated in 2006.
In his last season at Barcelona, he was the third or fourth choice at the centre back after Puyol, Milito and Marquez. He announced his retirement from football due to heart condition.
