domestic violence, wild violence, and other forms of violence I've heard of is in no way close to what I experienced today... should I call it mental violence... I don't know...

it happened that I wanted to find a good use of my time and also add to my well of experiences in many field. so I heard they were recruiting people in one plastic company at industrial estate along idiroko road, sango ota ogun state. I was also informed that the pay is 1080 (one thousand eighty naira) daily and they pay every month.

so I woke up early today, set out in my well ironed cloth(thank God I didn't tuck in my shirt, the humiliation would have been depressing) and I got there before 7 am , the time to resume. I was taken inside by one of the workers who was busy questioning other "aspirants" about who referred them for the "job", telling some of them how he can't just take anybody in anyhow without a form of "connection". well, in short I was taken in and handed over to a supervisor and I joined another person at the blower machine. my assignment was to arrange the hard plastic into the moving track of the machine at not less than 4 pieces per 1.5 seconds. at first, it was too fast and I kept missing some spot. Before I could place the plastic, the track is gone and I could see some of the other workers running to replace it so as to avoid the hot air from gushing out at the blowing chamber.

then 10 am came and I was told to go on an hour break till 11 am. I came back and I continued my "work".

I continued working and we were blowing and arranging these plastic into another bag... we were to fill a bag till the weight is 9.10 kg. and we were also to report each bag filled per hour. and by the time we continued, we were already doing 5 bags per hour...

lemme break it down to you.
4 plastic bottles is around 0.05kg, and we were to fill 9.10 kg for 1 bag, and we're doing 5 bags per hour. if you can do the calculation, you'll see the number of plastics I'm arranging per hour.
**************
THE WAHALA....

*****

when it was 12 : 33 pm, I asked my partner that, " are we still going for any breaks again since we'll be closing by 6 pm ?", she said no more breaks... eeehh?...

I asked again., "how many bags are we doing for today", she said we're to just continue working till closing period... I was speechless, I couldn't imagine working from 11 am till 6 pm without any break and at worst, working while standing... (no single seat in that factory, except for the supervisors.)
I asked my partner again that "is this how you've been working all these while? " she told me yes, that with time, I'll get used to it.

I asked my partner that, "is it possible for me to get my pay for today alone since I don't think I can ever come again tomorrow" she told me no, that even my pay for today will be deducted from my salary by one baba like that and again, I'll be given apron, nose mask and cap, all of whose fee will be deducted from my salary, apron is 1500(my daily pay is just 1080 oh)... imagine....

then and there, I decided it's over, I can't continue working like and elephant and be expected to go home with such meagre sum.... that's an average of 100 naira per hour....

when I told my partner I'm leaving, she was pleading that I should wait till closing and that she'll probably be blamed that she incited my withdrawal and I told her no way I'm fucking working till 6 pm as at then, I was on the brink of collapsing.

I met the supervisor, they were just making jest of me, asking me all manner of questions like... you can't cope? na your first time be this sebi na you dey find work... etc...

as I was about to exit the factory, one old woman rushed me asking me to give her my cap I was wearing (the one the factory people gave me) and I told her that they'll still request for everything. and they did.

I left the place feeling seriously tired, embarrassed and depressed.

do you even know that when our machine stopped working, my partner told me to quickly join another machine that the Indians must not see us standing idly and truthfully, I saw how pissed one moustache-filled-nosed guy was when he passed me by and I was just like ..." I don't give a shit, fire me if you will, ain't doing this labor work again".

now imagine the amount of work done, energy expended, risk of getting your hand entrapped into the machine, risk of skeletal deformation, muscle and tendon stress as a result of standing for over 10 hours all for the cost of just 1080 ?

when I got home, I searched for the minimum wage for Indians in India, and I saw that it's $3(1,143 naira) per 8 hr work. how come they are now doing 1080 for about 11 hours work here in Nigeria... and the worst is that Nigerians are doing that seriously passionately.

is this what we should accept.... using Nigerians like machine in our own country....

I believe the issue of #ENDSARS is just a scratch on the face of the rust covering many things in Nigeria. the issue of underemployment by so many foreign and private companies is really alarming and demands serious and apt attention.

it's well bro, I feel ur pains

This is the kind of situations Nigerians pass through in the hands of Indians and Lebanese

The government needs to cautions these people, I have heard so many stories of them maltreating our people

some even abuse female workers
Re: My Gruesome Experience Working In An Indian Factory In Nigeria by pozehnani(f): 6:13pm On Oct 30, 2020
Lol... See you. You went to do factory work, you're forming niggar. Lol..

Most of those factory jobs are slavery in disguise especially if it's owned by those Lebanese.
That was why the conditions of the job were not clearly spelt out to you. They know if they do, majority will reject it. So, they feel by the time you're into it, youll get used to it and won't to stop (according to your co-worker). Plus they know the unemployment situation of our country. so they're using that advantage to over-labour our youths. Very pathetic.

I don't blame them. I blame our govt. Useless bunch.

There's a Yoruba proverb that says when an elephant falls, other tiny animals Will be climbing the elephant

The Indians know we don't have sensible labour unions that Will protect workers and nigeria has useless leaders who don't care

Best you don't ever go back there because they have no health insurance and they don't give a Shi about you if you break down and fall sick due to job related Hazzards

THERE ARE PEOPLE THAT WORK FROM 8-5 DAILY IN THIS COUNTRY JUST FOR 7,000 NAIRA MONTHLY.
THE DEVILS CALLED EMPLOYERS DON'T CARE ABOUT YOU. BECAUSE OF THE POVERTY RATE IN THE COUNTRY IF YOU DECIDE TO QUIT TODAY THERE ARE 50 MORE HUNGRY PEOPLE FIGHTING TO REPLACE YOU FOR 5,000 NAIRA PER MONTH.

This is bad!

I once worked for a man who seats in the pulpit in my church.

I taught in his school, lesson after school is compulsory, which I hated. I was always exhausted after getting home because a times I teach two classes, I'm talking primary school here.

My pay was 10K. I left there July 19, my July salary was paid January 20 after so much reporting.

There are people really enslaved by employers in this country and it's just too bad we don't have a local Labor Congress to report to.

0.05kg = 4 bottles.
9.10kg = 728 bottles.

1 bag = 9.10kg = 728 bottles.
1 hour = 5 bags = 45.5kg = 3640 bottles

Don't blame me, blame idleness.

loool. You see factory work is peanut when you measure it by the standard of living in the country. In uk 8 hrs work is 69 pounds a day which can only afford you 3 pairs of jeans in marks and Spencer. And talking about using or being wicked nobody is using any one. That's the demand of the job. 60 year ,70 year old white british, chinese, indians are doing factory jobs standing 8hrs , 10hrs as the case maybe.na there I know why the oyibo term us africans lazy and good for nothing.
