It is my understanding that she does not herself believe in Jesus Christ, so only she can explain how one who does not believe in a God of any kind(an atheist) can at the same time exist as one who believes in God(A follower of Jesus Christ).

As for me, I was an atheist before I came to believe in God and the difference between two states is very clear to me as I am reminded of it every day in my new life.

Not an agnostic but an atheist. I didn't believe in God but as I got older, my mind began to torment with questions that I became even more driven to find answers for. At first I blame on having a effective brain, but instead the patterns became even clearer and clearer with time, eventually leading me to find God or die.

When it came to believing in God, eventually, I had to force myself to obey His call to believe Him even when I saw and had no evidence to the contrary of His existence for the longest - the only clue I had were the patterns that I has observed for the longest which seemed directed no matter how I tried to process them. Not long after I started on the path of obedience, I began to realize that there is in fact a power of sorts out there somewhere interfering and leading me on a sure path - those around me noticed it too and were afraid. It was several months before I finally acknowledged that something real was indeed happening.

I am afraid you are not getting the words tangled up.

An atheist of course may know others who believe in the existence of a God but his personal conviction is that there is none, and this conviction born not necessarily out of ignorance but instead a lack of evidence for the existence of one.

An agnostic on the other hand is one who is unsure.

By the two definitions, you can see the difference is in the conclusion reached. The atheist is decided that since he has no evidence, God is a delusion, whereas for the agnostic, even though there is no evidence, he remains undecided.

As for obedience, Jesus Christ said that those who love Him are those who obey His commandments and trust in God.
