Judges 6:13“But sir,” ‘Gideon replied, “if the LORD is with us, why has all this happened to us? Where are all his wonders that our fathers told us about when they said, ‘Did not the LORD bring us up out of Egypt?’ But now the LORD has abandoned us and put us into the hand of Midian” NIV

There are many of us who have been disappointed in one way or the order. Disappointment is usually very painful especially when it comes from someone you hold in high esteem. To be disappointed is to be let down, to de defeated of one’s hope or expectation in someone. You become disappointed in a person if a strongly held expectation in that person is not met. Disappointment is a betrayal of trust. A sister may believe that a brother will marry her because they are very close. If she gets to see his wedding invitation, that may be a form of disappointment. An Uncle working in Abuja might have promised you a job once you finish your NYSC only for him to tell you that he has forgotten and they have done the recruitment already. Disappointment comes in various shades and from different people. But the end result is painful. God usually turns a disappointment to an appointment. People have shared testimonies of how God turned what initially looked like a disappointment to an appointment. As a child of God, know that every disappointment may be a blessing in disguise.

From our text, Gideon was disappointed in God for allowing the Midianites to plunder their land and impoverished them. He queried the wonders their forefathers had told them about God. Gideon was disappointed in God for abandoning them. Gideon was hurt. The Midianites so oppressed them that they made shelters in caves and mountains and hid their harvests from the oppressors. I believe at this time of anguish, if anyone had told Gideon to come and worship Yahweh, he would have refused to do so. Many youths seem to have been disappointed in God for unanswered prayers that they do not want to come to church again or be useful to Him. One fact is; God does not disappoint anybody. Following Gideon’s disappointment was an appointment. In the next verse (v.14), God appointed him to be the leader of Israel. A coward peasant farmer now became a military General that led the whole Army of Israel. Again, God used Gideon to secure victories for the Israelites. Notable among them was how he eventually defeated the oppressors-the Midianites Judg. 7:8-25.

Fellow heavenly pilgrims, whatever disappointment you have now may be for a greater appointment later. The disappointment in terms of job, marital relationship, finance, admission, travelling abroad etc can be a blessing in disguise. God uses disappointment to teach us a lesson. Do not give up on God and do not give up on yourself. God normally allows man to disappoint us so that He can manifest His glorious power. God will make your disappointment to become an appointment in Jesus name.

Prayer: Father, I thank you for all the disappointments I have experienced in the past. Turn them to my testimony in Jesus name. Amen.
