Men Don't Cry, But I Cried! by FIRDAUS3(m): 6:27pm On Nov 22, 2020
Men don't cry, but I cried!

I sent my car for service in preparation for my trip to Benue since Wednesday. The vehicle was not returned until yesterday evening.

I was very angry that the mechanic delayed my planned trip but was also glad that he brought the car back for me to leave this morning.

So I decided to drive around to be sure the car was in good condition for the trip, this was about 7.30pm...I drove up to the Games Village Traffic Junction and the car stopped. I tried starting it and it won't start, so parked, called the mechanic, who told me he has gone home but will see if he can make it back to me.

So I decided to start the car once more and Bang! The car burst into flames...I ran out of the car in shock and confusion. The next episode of this mishap is the reason for my narrative.

From the moving traffic, I saw men and boys park their cars and were rushing to my burning car with fire extinguishers, some where struggling to open the bonnet.

From a building inside games village, I heard women screaming and passing buckets of water, bags of detergents. I saw a guy removed his t-shirt, soaked it in water and was trying to open the bonnet with fire covering his hands.

In all this, I was just standing by a tree, with my eyes staring into space, till I saw the flames go out eventually and I heard someone asked...where is the owner of the car?

It was then and only then that I stepped forward and found myself being hugged and consoled by strangers, Nigerians, Muslims, Christians, traditionalist and may be atheist.

All joined to wish me well and they turned to their cars or homes one after the other. The last being the guy who suffers a deep cut to his leg where he was helping out.

As soon as he left, I turned to see what was left of the car and I counted 13 fire extinguishers that were used, other items that were used and also the charred remains of someone's t-shirt that was used.
Just when tears started forming in my eyes, I noticed I was not still alone, there were two policemen who helped to salvage the burning car and have chosen to remain with me till I get family and friends to come take me away.

At that moment, my belief that a New Nigeria is possible was renewed and I was proud to be a Nigerian.

I woke up this morning thinking, where and how did we get so divided and polarised as a nation, when before my own eyes I saw Musa, Obi, Femi, Andrew, Mike all helping to salvage my car, without caring who I was. I thank God for his mercies and for the good people of Nigeria...together we shall overcome.

Well, we still have our humanity at beck and call..
Was going home yesternight and I saw a guy struggling to reverse his stuck car..
Now 3 things are involved..
1-the backpack I carried contained some huge cash, the week sales I was gonna go deposit on Monday..

2-- the car got stuck in my area, my office/shop is also in my area so am well known in my vicinity.

3---cars getting stuck, bike breakdown, pregnant woman who needs help, fake accident are some of the gimmicks they use to rob people in that area..

Well, I damned all these thoughts and was helping the guy, just 3 of us in a lonely part, two of them knows each other na only me be jjc.
At one particular time, I had to remove my backpack and pushed with all my strength.. Finally, the car got out from the quicksand and the guy was so happy, he almost followed me to my house he was full of thanks.. If to say dem Wan rob me yesterday, I made it very easy cos I forget myself while helping. But I was happy I helped him cos he might also get robbed at that spot..
We get our craze as Nigerians but our humanity sometimes supersede our mentalo.
Na naija cause am sha if not Nigerians are very great people..

Legendhero doesn't even know why I didn't want to argue so much with him, if I used my original moniker he will understand...
He was one of the heroes of the covid19 by easing some nairalanders pain..

Who says man do not cry. Cry of cry hungry you

Animals live their true identity

Not chained by the expectation of society

Eat when hungry

Mate when Hot

Without feeling ashamed

No clergy to place blame

A New born child is a sinner

So says a book that praises murderers

The gods created us nude

Yet unclothedness is a taboo it makes no sense

But we do not want to look different

So we put on a covering

And betray our true feeling.

We hide our true self

And show our false self

We tell children not to cheat

We are no different from hypocrite

Stop the pretence

Break the fence

Speak your unpopular opinion

Though it may conflict with established institution

Be yourself in the face of death

Your killers will oneday loose their breath

It is better to say your mind

Than to live a lie

How will someone else accept you

When you cannot love you

Men don't cry?

Even Jesus Christ wept on occasions in the Bible.

I don't know who taught men don't cry. undecided

I was just going to write the same thing. This same story keeps resurfacing...probably a fictional tale.

Mostly fathers, then sometimes mothers I believe.

Does the phrase "Don't cry! You're a big boy" sound familiar?
Little boys are then forced to learn to suck up it. Then they grow up being emotionally overwhelmed with bottled up feelings.

It's just a simple phrase. And those who say it and every around know well enough men cry.
They sometimes say it was in the past that it was seen as a terrible thing for men to cry but that's not true. Enough history books have told us about men crying and they were not locked for it. In the religious books, we got enough men crying. Again it's just a simple phrase

But then the feminist movement came about and exaggerated it and made claims that it's the reason "men are toxic". And most people chop am hook, line and sinker. But in any case, men are not as emotional as women and it's not because they are bottling it up.

So in other words, it is the fault of feminists that people think men don't cry? The length you guys go to fault women for everything is irritatingly weak and digusting, 21th century male ain't men(some anyway), but overgrown puppies.

Same as your level of intelligence, which is below par actually, how feminism entered into the discussion beats me.

You want to know how?
The narrative was from feminist trying to rationalize the "patriarchy" with the general claim that all men are bad. So wanted to use a false sympathetic approach that men are toxic and it's not entirely their fault but the society's fault.
Hence the narrative, "men are told to bottle up their feelings and if they cry, they are mocked". But it's not true..
.boys were flogged back in school and they cried. They lost loved ones and they cried. Infact, they went through breakups and they cried. They are many narrations of these incidents on nairaland by men and there's no such backlash as "you're a man and you're crying". During this endsars protest, the man who lost his son and was crying, did you see any such comment as "he's a man and he shouldn't be crying"? There's no single man you'll ask athat will tell you he has never cried. You want to evade this and say it's recent times that things changed but that's not true either.
In religious books, there are reports of men crying. Crying for their sins, for their afflictions. Warriors who lost their brothers and wept and there was not even the slightest hint that it made them weak. History books as well have this. The Edo period will tell you stories of great samurais and their afflictions and how they cried. The Romans will tell you stories if when their generals wept. When they went to war. When they lost their family. Even terrible people cry. Hitler cried. So where did this narrative come from?

And that's where feminist came into the picture. Your feminist-wired brain saw me write "feminist" and twisted it to "women". As if women is synonymous to feminist.
They created this narrative to reinforce their "toxic masculinity" claim and further emasculating men.
Re: Men Don't Cry, But I Cried! by Vyolet(f): 12:48pm On Nov 23, 2020
I've seen men cry over a hundred times.
Men are humans with emotions, they cry for every reason a woman cries.
It is better to let the tears flow freely in most instances, you will feel better after.
