Femi Otedola Defines True Happiness by sadi78: 8:25am On Nov 28, 2020
When billionaire Femi Otedola in a telephone interview, was asked by the radio presenter, "Sir what can you remember made you a happiest man in life?"

Femi said:
"I have gone through four stages of happiness in life and finally I understood the meaning of true happiness."

The first stage was to accumulate wealth and means. But at this stage I did not get the happiness I wanted.

Then came the second stage of collecting valuables and items. But I realized that the effect of this thing is also temporary and the lustre of valuable things does not last long.

Then came the third stage of getting big projects. That was when I was holding 95% of diesel supply in Nigeria and Africa. I was also the largest vessel owner in Africa and Asia. But even here I did not get the happiness I had imagined.

The fourth stage was the time a friend of mine asked me to buy wheelchair for some disabled children. Just about 200 kids.

At the friend's request, I immediately bought the wheelchairs.

But the friend insisted that I go with him and hand over the wheelchairs to the children. I got ready and went with him.

There I gave these wheel chairs to these children with my own hands. I saw the strange glow of happiness on the faces of these children. I saw them all sitting on the wheelchairs, moving around and having fun.

It was as if they had arrived at a picnic spot where they are sharing a jackpot wining.

I felt REAL joy inside me. When I decided to leave one of the kids grabbed my legs. I tried to free my legs gently but the child stared at my face and held my legs tightly.

I bent down and asked the child: Do you need something else?

The answer this child gave me not only made me happy but also changed my attitude to life completely. This child said:
"I want to remember your face so that when I meet you in heaven, I will be able to recognize you and thank you once again"

What would you be remembered for after you leave that office or place?

Will anyone desire to see your face again where it all matters?

This got me thinking. I pray it does same to everyone.

He is right. I just remember one day alone banex plaza Abuja. As a get man then, I was tracking to to work for night shift, I met an old retired soldier who came to abuja for his pension but was disappointed by government that he could no get transport to go back to benue state. I have to empty my pocket to help him but believe me the joy I had that day money will never buy it.

Another memorable day in my life was a day my staff a Muslim dismissed soldier sent me a text and wrote MY OGA. BECAUSE OF YOU KINDNESS I WILL BECOME A CHRISTIAN. The guy was able to baptise in our church. But funny thing happens. That same boy duped me money and equipment that worth 2.4million and ran away till today. But wherever I read the message it still gives me joy. This picture was taken the day the guy was baptized. He is the guy in white garment standing in the middle while I am the one in red polo with a paper

He nailed it, albeit unconsciously. Happiness is artificial and prone to swings. Joy is from the inner man or spirit of a man. He was battling with happiness all along but the moment he gave those wheel chair to the needy, he scored a big point in the spirit realm because that is what Jesus asked us to do to make a real mark. Give to the helpless. Help those who cannot help themselves. He felt joy unknowingly but described it as true happiness.

"It is more blessed to give than to receive" doesn't mean you'll receive more blessings (financial or material) than the receiver.. It means you (the giver) is "more" happier than than receiver. The joy you feel after giving to someone's need is more than the joy the person feels. I know this cos I've been a both a giver and a receiver at different point in time

Real success in life is measured by the intangible values , impact and sunshine brought to the life of others rather than the persue of personal interest.
