Everything about Papa Bouba Diop was a competition...his drive and competitive spirit was unrivalled. If Patrick Vieira could do it, he too could.
He put his mind to the game and chased balls (in the pitch and on the bed) like no man's business.

It's sad he took the competitive spirit to the grave because a part of me thinks he wanted to check if his death will trend more than Maradona's death

He just chose to die at the wrong time because the world is still busy mourning Maradona so there'd be little or no sympathy for him.
Farewell 'The Wardrobe'.
Too bad you stayed and died in the closet but I don't blame you because everyone hates a homo.

Metsu had a terminal illness (colon cancer, and had already spread to his liver and lungs, when he was diagnosed) and died in 2013. He is French but was buried in Dakar.

A wonderful and enigmatic Coach that will never be forgotten in Senegalese history.

I love the man.

Thank you.

That 2002 senegalese squad had the tendency to be the first African world cup semi finalist but the usual African carelessness took the better of them, a day before their quarter final match against turkey, diouf was interviewed, he was saying the turks are forgone conclusion, that they were looking forward to a potential semi final clash with Brazil, and that was it!!! they fell to the turks. The 2002 world cup is the most interesting world cup I have experienced, football is getting mechanical these days, you hardly see good dribbles and entertainment anymore, clubs are just after money and result, the entertainment in football is declining very rapidly.
I missed Robinho's stepovers
I missed Okocha's flicks
I missed Quaresma Rabonas
I missed denilson 20 stepovers
I missed Chilavert's aura as a goalkeeper
I missed Stankovic's shots
I missed Aghahowa's somersaults
lastly, I missed Adriano.... a machine in human form.

José Louis Chilavert.......the most charismatic goalkeeper ever and one of the greatest players ever to step into the pitch.

His charisma level rivals that of other greats of his time like Cantona.

Denilson......dat boy worry day year.

you are correct!! football no get mad men again, leading to less controversies and entertainment, football currently is like 22 robots chasing a ball,
when Portugal exited the 2002 world cup in the group stages, seeing their coach on crutches consoling his players was very emotional.

The CocaCola FIFA WorldCup remains my best W/Cup by miles.

I watched every game, knew every team(s) and their groups...the Managers of each team, name by name.

I think, publicity-wise, no W/Cup beats the ones organised by the Asians. Big credits to Sepp Blatter & CocaCola.

After Senegal beat Sweden, who finished top in Group F (England, Argentina & Nigeria) with that Camara's extra-time goal, they felt they were on top.

They fell to Turkey because they were over-confident and they were tired, having gone through extra-time against Sweden and then against Turkey, who ultimately fell to Brazil ('cos they were also pretty tired)

All the same, their game was reminiscent of Nigeria's 98 WorldCup 2nd-round game who were looking forward to playing Brazil, rather than thinking of how to face the Laudrup brothers in the Danish side. grin

England had a Swede as Coach...Sven-Goran Erikssen
The Swedes had 2 Coaches (Lagerback & Soderberg)
Nigeria....Adegboyega Onigbinde
Argentina....Marcelo Bielsa

Then as school-boys... Coca-Cola did open-bus campaigns, distributing flyers, etc.

The football showed naturalness, especially from the Africans.

South-Africa in Group B and their flamboyant coach, Jomo Sono.

Only Cameroon did play really badly....the GER v CAM grin grin

The Turks were the surprise package for me, I fell in love with them after they fought tooth and nail with Brazil in the first match of group stage where Rivaldo faked an injury to get a Turkish player red carded, the likes of Hasan Sas, umit davala, hakan sukur, emre etc were a delight to watch

I love the match between Brazil and Belgium in the round of 16, where the Brazilians needed the help of the match officials to win, assuming v.a.r was available then, it would be another story.

About those Cameroonians, they always fall to the Germans anytime any day, I have a feeling that if you pick random 11 men in Berlin to face the Cameroon national team, the Germans will still come out victorious

Brazil won but were not convincing, they were only convincing against China 4-0, costa Rica 5-2 and the final which they defeated the Germans.

ilhan mansiz scored the golden goal against the Senegalese, after that goal most people watching the game were very sad, they wanted the Senegalese to win but it would be cruel to the turks if the Senegalese won because the turks were far better, I can't forget the look on Omar Daf 's face when the turks scored

He died of Charcot-Marie-Tooth, the disease is an inherited, genetic condition. It occurs when there are mutations in the genes that affect the nerves in your feet, legs, hands and arms.

Sometimes, these mutations damage the nerves. Other mutations damage the protective coating that surrounds the nerve (myelin sheath). Both cause weaker messages to travel between your extremities and brain.

That means some of the muscles in your feet may not receive your brain's signal to contract, so you're more likely to trip and fall. And your brain may not receive pain messages from your feet, so if you've rubbed a blister on your toe, for example, it may get infected without your realizing it.
