What Do You Say When People Ask You About Nigeria? by Commotfornigeri: 6:43pm On Dec 03, 2020
So I usually have numerous conversations with my colleagues at work. Most times it's usually about experiences growing up. Situational events and the state of the nation.

I've recently noticed that I freeze any time they ask me about nigeria.

So i'm putting this question out to other nigerians.

What do you say when you're asked about your experiences and the state of nigeria?

Do you paint paradise? do you tell it as it is? or do you dodge the question?

I'd put on a longing smile and say:

"it's summer all year round. the sun shines so brightly it lightens up your mood.

You could attend a party uninvited and have your bellyful of food. No resentment; No shame; no judgement.

There's a deep sense of community. you're automatically your neighbor's keeper. it's your duty to check if James the okada rider who lived next door has woken up or not; or if Mama Titi and her kids, who live just behind your house, have returned from their trip to the village.

the people are resilient, persistent and hell bent to succeed; and their sense of humor is second to none. they joke about any and everything. it's what keeps them going. it's how they survive".

I answer their questions from my point of view and keep it moving. There is no greater shock to first world citizens than an African paying upfront for commodities which their lazy selves purchase in installments.

They're more shocked at the foolishness of such an action.
