Scammers New Ways At The ATM Booth, My Experience! by teresafaith: 7:14pm On Dec 03, 2020
I've always been on about how I'll never fall for a scam cos I know I'm not greedy, now I know better.

It happened on monday at Polaris bank branch in ikorodu secretariat opp general hospital.

I was on queue to use the ATM machine, when it got to my turn I heard a guy talking on the phone about how the second ATM machine debited him without paying, he went on about how he needed the money for fuel, foodstuffs etc and now he's stranded and he didn't know what to do again.

He approached me saying he wants help of 1000 naira just to fuel his car and he promise to send the money back that right now he's without anything, he's not a begger bla bla bla

My instinct told it's a scam but I only listened cos I felt pity for him and moreover people had also helped me when I needed it, a 1000 naira shouldn't be a reason why I can't help him and he also promised to refund me.

Secondly, I hadn't withdraw any money for him to know the amount to ask me, so i gave him, collected his contact details and told him not to wait for me to call him first before doing the right thing, he thanked me and drove off.

Today is Thursday, I knew I have been scammed but decided to call him first just to be sure, I called and called he wasn't picking, sent him text he didn't respond.

Well my people that's my story!

Since it was just 1k you gave to him, you should have just let it go. Calling him to send you back the 1k you gave to him wasn't right. If you gave him like 10k I would have understood, but 1k, haba, that's like a Sunday offering you're giving to the needy.

He was obviously starving and needed to come up with any kind of story to get money to feed.

In as much as 1k is not a huge amount of money to you, it is to some people. The person collected the money by deceit, if he had said dash me, it would have been a different thing, but he said he'll pay back and collected the lady's details. Money the OP worked you're just telling her to let it go, we don't even know d nature of her job. If this man goes to 10 ATM with this story, do you know how much he'll cash out in a month. If it's me, even if it's 5h, and he told me I shud borrow him and not dash him, I go still call am.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not justifying what he did...it's wrong.

All I'm saying is that since she choose to help him against her better judgement, she should have just let the the money go. It's just 1k.

The streets of Lagos is littered with beggars you and I know that. I ignore them whenever they come across me with fabricated tales aimed at appealing to my emotions so I can part with some money.

But the reality of the matter is if by chance I buy into any of their tales and play the good Samaritan by giving out a token like 1k, I won't bother calling even if the person in question promises to reimburse me, cos I know he wouldn't and the money isn't worth me ringing his line non-stop.

If you choose to give money to a stranger, you must believe that the money is gone. Cos less than 5% would keep to their promise by repaying you back. The rest would ghost you.

Well, she did say she called just to be sure.

And when he did not pick she let it go without a fuss.

I also think they is nothing wrong with her calling. 1k is not small money.

Even if it’s dashing someone that appreciates it.
It’s something. But that’s your opinion. That’s why we all are different.
