From the two extracts above, it is apparent that there is going to be a heated battle between EA and KONAMI to determine who rules the next-gen soccer genre.

I totally agree. I've been following the FIFA franchise since France 98 (PC Version). FIFA 07 is tha bomb! Can't wait to get my claws on FIFA 08.

On the other hand, PES has been ok sha, but the programmers concentrate more on the gameplay and formation settings. Can't say much about the commentary and flexibility though they've improved reasonably.

In current gen consoles, Konami has set standard in soccer gameplay. While FIFA is good on the presentation side with the aid of thier licence.

But EA is really harnessing the technology available in the next gen consoles to improve their gameplay to meet that of Konami's. I beleive in the next few years, it will be really difficult to choose one over the other over gameplay alone.

Pes is way better than FIFA IMO. I have been playing both since 2000 and FIFA has been no where near PES. The only advantage i think fifa has is the licensing thing and the commentary but if its in terms of gameplay PES better.

When it comes to graphics and commentary, FIFA is really good. But after that, Nothing else. PSE has always had an outstanding gameplay. Konami's PSE and winning eleven are the best soccer games on any console. I wouldnt buy nor play FIFA even if were free.

I agree with anyone here that PES 1-4 are all better than all the FIFA games that have ever existed BUT FIFA 06 and 07(PS 2 version) is better than PES 5 and 6.
The commentary is top-notch and the overall game play is classy.
I am an ardent fan of PES but i was very disappointed with PES 6. 2 weeks after i bought my PES 6, i got bored and decided to try FIFA 06 & 07.
These two games are the revelation of this decade!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mr Ess, pls try and get FIFA 07 and come back here and tell us how it feels.
They have made improvements on the controls so u can actually pick the controls that matches the one of PES games so u shouldn't have a problem.
A trial will convince u.
PES has to make a major improvement on PES 7 due to be out this autumn.

just got FIFA '07 last week (cos now on sale, cheap me ) after playing '06 for over a year,

and i have to say its quite impressive, the passing and scoring features are vastly improved, even over FIFA 06 which i played till last month. they are seem to be better than PES, but only got so recently.

an improvement over '06 i liked was the squad update feature, so i didn't have to reshuffle the team, with transfers accurate up to feb '07.

I'm just breaking it in though, a week of continuous play should settle the matter for me.

How the Bleep do u co-ordinate moves playing on a PC? I tried it once and it was the hardest thang ever.
I play on PS2. The major football games are not out on PS3 yet in the UK and thats bollocks to me.
FIFA 08 wont come out till september and Pro Evolution 7 wont be out till october.

Sony and all these major gadget companies always have us short-changed in the UK.
This PS3 console was launched in the UK just 4 months ago with a staggering price of 490 pounds($1000)
The folks in America pay just 499 dollars for this machine and it has been launched in the USA since last year.

Whats more?
If u buy your console in the USA at a cheaper price, u can't play the UK games on it.(Its not going to work)
It means u have to buy both the console and the games in America to play OR stick to UK games and a very expensive UK console.
The whole process is a rip-off. I wake up every morning feeling like a prodigal son for buying this console because there are no good games out yet to play on it.

fifa gameplay is as predictable as a nigerian movie.they tried 2 add some nu dribles(which hardly work) 2 spice it up but stil.did i mention d supanatural goalies?They actualy dive b4 a shot is even taken!U wil notice if u replay frame by frame(n it only hapens 4 close range shots).meaning d keeper saves d shots dat shud go in den makes a hash of d 1s he shud save!n y does d captain band look like celotape?Y is rooney d highest rated player?Y is d replay system so anoyin?Y does evry player posess litenin speed/roket shots?y does d post look so smal?I can go on n on.

used to be a killer for PES n winning eleven but never loved Fifa until badabooooooom i was hit by the wonders of 07 twas amazing.
Konami ruled to a point n believe me they ran out of ideas i guess but Fifa evolved i just cant wait to get my hands on 08.
Y are the keepers easily swayed in PES n WE and they dont stand their ground,look Fifa has taken soccer game to a whole new level.

presentation, graphics, framerate, commentary, licenses all go to the fifa franchise but gameplay is definitely a no-go area cause pes series got it locked down like akon. Now pes 2008 is out, it has it's problems but it's still a thoroughly more enjoyable experience than fifa. U could check out www.eurogamer.com, it topped the uk charts for a while and we've been promised patches for it's flaws. About the licenses, u could check out www.pesgaming.com and download patches and files to rectify the unlicensed jerseys.

I have played fifa08 on ps3 and its really cool though it takes a lil time to get the hang of it. Pro evo 2007 on 360 wasnt all that but its fun to play too. I'm looking forward to getting pro evo 2008 on ps3. can anybody help. Apart from the minor glitches i hear are on pro evo 2008 for ps3, I think overall its gonna be a beta game than fifa though just slightly. keep it real

Fact is that it is now very difficult a task to choose between both franchise. It's agreed that KONAMI has the gameplay while EA has the presentation and licences. So now, it all depends on what you want from your football game. If you want the game with the most realistic simulation of the beautiful game, then FIFA is your option. FIFA makes you feel like you are actually playing(or watching) 90 minutes of live football footage in which no moment is missing. FIFA is not all about bashin the buttons to put the ball in you opponent's net. It's more about passing, dribbling and shootingin the right manner and also slowing down the play to think and take crucial decisions just the same way a real life player would. There is no doubt that FIFA is the flashier looking game.
But if you want to experience only those magical moments of football(like highlights), where every moment is thrilling while it lasts, PES is the game to go for. Pro Evo provides the complete gamer immersion where you respond to every button press in away comparable to no ther soccer game, not to mention its great multiplayer appeal.

In the end, i do agree with a reviewer who said: "If you prefer GAMING, choose PES; if you prefer FOOTBALL, choose FIFA.

Also been following both franchise for a long time and i prefer pes just for the game play. What i dont understand is what i call the 'annoying thing' in konamis programming. Why is there restriction of movement in certain situation such that you cant run or change direction until the opponent touches the ball or the ball runs out of play?

FIFA is obviously the choice soccer game.
I've played the 2 and in my opinion FIFA has it.
The presentation is superb, moves and so on.

i think Konami blew it in their latest version of the PES series, its just so damn easy to score reminds me of those fifa games a few years back. And the online gaming is pretty much useless. I heard Fifa 08 is very very good.

Who doesn't know that pes is better than fifa. Konami's PES has more realism that FIFA. FIFA looks a lot like cartoon

FIFA my foot. You guys have got to be freaking kidding me! PES is the best thing to happen to gaming at least next to the Burnout racing series! Whenever I soil my mind by attempting to play FIFA, it seems to easy and too ochestrated.

No doubt the graphics are to die for but gameplay sends it back to the minor leagues. That's where PES rules. So all you FIFA apologists switch up your style and get with the revolutionary PES2008! Ya Heard!

Av played Fifa 08 and Pro Ev soccer 2008 on Ps3 using an LCD TV with HDMI connection and honestly Fifa is far better as regards to Graphics and Commentary and club branding Pro just have an edge in the area of Gameplay. As someone said if you like Football Go for Fifa, Gaming PES. Later

I think most ppl comparing the two games have probably not played Pro Evolution Soccer(Formally called International Super Star Soccer on super Nintendo)

This is the best soccer game ever created and to all my pro fans, they know what i'm talking bout.

The first time i played fifa08 i beat the opponent 6-1 and this was me not even stressin myself. Fifa Gameplay is Crap. I know 2 different girls who broke up with their boyfriends because of pro. Yes this is true.My Ex also threatened me to cut down on the game, but the game is just too sick.

Pls all those ppl comparing, pls go and play pro first
