I am surprised at the above high charges, which are patterned after the Abuja-Kaduna rail line fares.
Travel time from Abuja to Kaduna is about 3 hours by road, while from Lagos to Ibadan should not be more than 1 hour 15 minutes, on a good day.
The above difference in time means that the rail trip from Lagos-Ibadan ought to be cheaper.
I wonder what others think about this.

Trust Nigerian politicians to create kidnapping activities along that route to make sure everyone uses the train. That's the situation in kaduna-Abuja. Yes your leaders are that heartless.

You're smart.

So funny that Afonjas who were hailing Buhari and Amaechi for the rail will not be able to afford it. grin

Everytime you mention Buhari they will tell you he built Lagos Ibadan railway, now see all of them lamenting that they will take bus N500 instead of train 6k grin grin

It's just $10 Dollars though, and the comfort supercedes the inconveniency of unlicensed Buses on the roads.
My worry is if the maintenance can be sustained to avoid derailment and providing good security.
We have to emulate other developed nations !

Depends on why Abuja to Kaduna is 3 hours.

Does it have more stops?

Secondly, Lagos to Ibadan is likely to have more volume, so you can make it cheaper and still make your investment back as quickly.

Actually people are looking at the first class ticket. Economy ticket is 3000 naira. Still relatively expensive when the minimum wage is 30000 naira unlike developed countries.

Sadly, this train is not for the average nigerian. It was meant to boost the economy of both states as well as decongest Lagos but that won't be happening. They need to peg this at 1000 Naira or #1500. This govt isn't for the masses.

Everything thing in this country is just up side down... Imagine train services that is cheapest means of Transportation anywhere in world!

Why is our case always different?
Is there a hidden curse laying on this country that we don't have any knowledge of ? embarassed u

I mean I don't understand

When order countries are celebrating giant leap in science and technology, we are congratulating one pregnant governor for constructing an over head bridge.

When they're electing people with vision, we are here doing APC PDP

I never rode in a train while growing up
Now that the trains are back they are increasing the fare!

This is not fair for the common man walahi

One thing I Know is that by increasing the Tfare the government is indirectly telling poor Nigerians to fucck off and stick to their ugly and evil roads.

Who exactly said train is cheaper.

London to Manchester by train £24

So let’s do a it of Economics 101. And let’s remove the fact that this train service is located in Nigeria or is owned by FG. Let’s just apply basic economics.

For a project that has just been completed for billions of dollars, the fixed cost and variable cost remain high. Therefore it is understandable that prices will be high in the interim for early adopters. As the rail line makes money and fixed costs are recovered, the marginal cost of operations will reduce as it will only be the operating expenditure that needs to be recovered. Besides the real economic value of a rail line is movement of freight, not passenger traffic.

This same thing applied to telecoms. As at the today the base stations are all in place and the license is fully recovered. All we are paying for now is cost of maintenance of the masts (diesel, electricity, security) and manpower costs. Which is why the real cost of telecoms has fallen sharply over the years. Consider that N1 per minute today is cheaper than N1per minute 3years ago if you consider devaluation and inflation.

Nigerians don't think sha. They should be using the airline pricing model where first class tickets are used to subsidize the coach tickets. Rich people will pay any amount for comfort on the train... so charge them 10,000 naira so you can make the coach tickets 500 -- 1,000 naira.

Monkey people.
