Hello nairalanders, it is no longer a secret that getting a
hand skill in addition to a degree will go a long way in
helping u especially in Naija...

I'm in a fix and need your kind suggestions which will
be very much appreciated.

My younger sister finished waec months ago, during
one of our chichats, we asked her what she would love
to study in school and she said philosophy or
psychology ,well it didn't really come as a surprise to us
because growing up she has had the flair for
philosophical books, and always try to be rational and
logical in her dealing with both her peers and elders.
(although we expected to hear one of the usual
common courses).

my father, was a technician and was specifically into
radio messaging (repairs, servicing, installation etc).
This sister of mine grew up liking his kind of work,
always watching and trying out things by herself
(sometimes she ends up spoiling our appliances)
always want to screw and unscrew.
she has this direct passion for electrical/technical
stuffs. in addition she is the one that fixes our phone
whenever it wants to misbehave, sometimes she just
cleans and recouples (while we will be busy thinking it's
sth that requires change or a big spoil)

She (my younger sis) actually taught me how to do
makeshift fuses and even educated me on neutral, live
and Earth wires).... these happened years ago

She is not a science student ,didn't for one day
mention physics or chemistry ; infact the integrated
science she did in junior secondary school is because it
was compulsory, meanwhile she loved crk and
literature so it was very easy to join the art class.

We agreed to get her to learning a skill first before jamb
come 2021 by God's grace.
In this part of our world, when it comes to female
acquiring a skill the first thing that comes to mind is
tailoring, hair dressing or catering; which is a capital NO
NO for her.

we know it's good to follow one's passion but the
things she is passionate about are usually considered
to be the male kind of skill(electrical, phone repairs
etc.

Please what would u do if she is to be your own
daughter or sister and which skill would you suggest ??
Thanks in anticipation.

I was going to suggest phone repairs even before reading up the content of your post thinking it be was you before I discovered it's meant for your sis.

Anyways, phone repairs is still a good one but I don't really know how society view and find a female reliable in this field to trust them enough to patronize them, which is the most important thing in this biz.

Alternatively, she can go into photography since she likes male related kinda skills. Girls also do this and the patronage is very high if you know what you're doing. Check out TY Bello.
