Delta State -Asaba N40 billion Airport Test Flight Scam

On March 24 2011, Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta state arranged an elaborate aircraft landing ceremony to show case the "operation" of his N40 billion Asaba International Airport with a full regimen of hired spectators. A chartered aircraft from a barely known airline -Overland Airways-owned by the Governor of Bauchi state, Isah Jaguda, landed at the airport and was received with fanfare.

SaharaReporters sources stated that the aircraft landed by way of mobile telephone communication between the pilot and air traffic controllers on the ground as the airport tower is yet to become operational.

Yesterday a citizen journalist, Prince Armour Idemude, took time to photograph the project. As these photographs reveal, the so-called "operation of Asaba International Airport" is a political scam of immense proportion. The airport is not anywhere near "operational" as claimed by Uduaghan and his handlers. It is a project still under construction.

It is unlikely that the airport would be completed by the end of 2011, but project costs are bound to go up again as Governor Uduaghan and his aides seek to deceive the people of Delta State about his phony airport project as election day approaches. Already, the project, which was originally conceived to cost N7 billion, has been reviewed four times.

how more can you call your people fo¤ls than this, 40 Billion on an airport that will serve less than 10% of the residents of the state. Just wondering the kind of investment such a project will attract when there's no electricity, water and other basic amenities aren't there. To make everything worst, its uncompleted.

This is the reason true democrats like myself loathe the idea of foisting or imposing any candidate on partymen.Uduaghan was imposed on Delta PDP by Ibori,against the wishes of many of us at the 2007 Ogwashi uku primaries.A lot of us encouraged the aspirant that actually won the primaries,in the person of Arthur Okowa to seek judicial redress,but he dissappointingly accepted to step down for Uduaghan and work in his cabinet.Also at that time,without mincing words,the PDP was the only party on ground state-wide and we did not understand Great Ogboru enough to work with him,hence we were stuck with Uduaghan

However,I'm sure the entire electorate in Delta state are suffiently fed up with Uduaghan to vote him out.My only advice to Great Ogboru of the DPP(a party that has no structure,not even a national chairman) is that he should cut a deal with the PDP,that he will decamp to the PDP if we transfer our votes to him and he wins the election(I mean,being the party with the widest spread and grassroots support base,our interest should not be discounted)

For your info,so many PDP members in Delta state are fed up with Uduaghan and are aware he is not only a monumental failure but the second most unfortunate thing to happen to Delta state after his cousin James Ibori

Men, when this airport is completely finished, its really going to be one in town. The tower is already looking fabulous! Truth be told, the place has the potential markings of Nigeria's most beautiful Airport.

I know its not finished o! but for airplane to land the  runways must be complete already. I do not think that of Akwa-Ibom had its first flight after total completion either, and now someone is referencing it.

We cannot absolve PDP from the ongoings in Delta state. After all they agreed to have a known thief like Uduaghan as their flag bearer. It is never heard of that a party does not like a candidate, but yet put him forward as he who should carry the touch. if the members of delta state pdp are so fed up, they should decamp. There are other parties in the state, it is common practice in other states.
So my brother I am afraid they share the responsibility for failure too.

What ever the case, I think the airport is a laudable project. It will not only serve the interest of the state, it will also bring in revenues to the coffers of government - considering that Onitsha, just a bridge away, and a business hot bed, will now be linked to the outside world by air.

So, there really is nothing to blame PDP about in this one.

Isn't it curious that a test run was conducted in an uncompleted airport. I thought the norm was to conduct such tests after all construction work has been completed. In any case this test shouldn't have attracted all the publicity that the article leads us to believe it did.

Take a look at the pics up there. . . . that's not a large crowd as far as I can see in there. Just a couple of onlookers. By the way, can't we just wait and read something from more newspapers and really confirm that this Guv is blowing hot air over nothing? Plus I don't think this project will stop at this stage.

Have you guys asked why and how Delta state came into being in the first place. All of these problems are not just a PDP affair, and the problems did not just start with this crappy airport that looks like it was built by illiterate Nigger Area slaves.

Until there is real grassroot movement for change, then our militarized experience will continue to make us a laughing stock among our grandchildren.

The endorsement of uduaghan by jonathan sybolizes one obvious trait of jonathan as a good for nothing criminal.

Though i leant the speaker that took his place while he was on suspension squandered about 600 million naira in a period of three that he was the acting governor.The money till this day is still yet to be accounted for.

That was the excat reason why I lost all support for Goodluck, and I can tell you a fair few people from Delta state did as well. Are we the only people who cannot recognise a Big Thief when we see one? Do we need the UK to keep identifying the thieves amongst our mist?

Uduaghan was name in a high profile court case, infact he was fingered as a master-mind behind the grand theft that has occured in Delta state, his big brother is on the run, a crook and an outlaw, yet Goddy found nothing wrong with endorsing him.

I gather that though Obi (acting governor), spent quite a lot, but he did pay a lot of people Uduaghan had been owing for years. The Thief Uduaghan is unbelievable. I hear when he was kicked out, Obi handed over the notorious desiel contract to his wife. Uduaghan was furious, this is Roli Uduaghans bread and butter, who was Obi to challenge the status quo. From news reaching us, Obi told him that he was entitled to it as it comes with the Office of the governor, and threatened to expose Uduaghan. The Guys Greed would shock even the Devil

Ol boy, it is not your eyes. the whole things has been wonky from day one. Ultimate deceit of the people of delta state, and wait for it. this rubbish cost over 40BN and it is not complete yet.
