The problem with Nigeria is democracy - political parties specifically..

The corruption, selfishness, repression etc are all sponsored and enabled by political parties and the alliances formed amongst members. Loyalty is to party ahead of the country.. There are no ideals nor plan, just corruption and self-perpetuation at any cost.
That is why we can never have an effective legislature to check the executive
That is why MDAs can never function; because recruitment and administration has been outsourced to party members
Parties are the conduit through which funds are looted, laundered and deployed for rigging.. Why should the governor in Bauchi be bothered about Bayelsa elections when he has more pressing issues at home?
Perpetual succession of parties is the reason why there can never be real accountability after a government has left office, because the roots are deep in the soil.
Political parties and their central nature are responsible in the culture of nepotism and the feeling that some ethnic groups are more equal than others.

With the high level of illiteracy in Nigeria, independent candidature remains the best option, because political parties are criminal enterprises established to exploit the citizenry, and that's why the stakes will continue to get higher.

The evil is political parties and the earlier we weaken or rid ourselves of them, the better!!!

As horrible as democracy is, it's still the best option compared to its alternatives. Nigeria has had how many years of military rule. What did we have to show for it? If not for this rubbish baboon that became president and ruined our democracy, Nigeria was doing quite fine as a democratic country. Media chats where you could call in and abuse the president are all long gone.

I never suggested the military as an alternative, but rather a tweaking of the democratic style we practice. We picked the perks of British and American democracy and left the important checks and balances. If you analyse our woes as a nation, it stems from the enormous power that political parties have. The supreme court judgement that it is parties who are voted for, and not individuals, nailed the coffin on our hopes. This rubbish baboon could ruin our democracy only succeeded because the effective check - the legislature is in the hands of party faithful, with party supremacy prevailing over national interest. The baboon and his cohorts had whined that the 8th assembly in the hands of the opposition had frustrated his golden plans, now we have a 9th assembly that, for the first time in the history of democracy, has to apologise to the president for attempting to embarrass him by an invitation to appear and explain what he's doing to stem the rising spate of wanton killings. The financial and political muscle parties wield is too strong in an ethnically heterogeneous, multireligious, and illiterate society as ours - bearing in mind that they have no moral compass, but an inordinate desire for self-perpetuation and wealth accumulation.

If we found a way to weaken political parties and promote independent candidature instead, the era of bringing nepotistic, corrupt, incompetent but loyal party-men would be over.. We wouldn't have to see elections as choosing between two lesser evils. It is a great insult on our sensibilities that despite the doldrums that we have found ourselves as a result of the clueless and insincere party and government in office, their governors still travel to other states during elections just to ensure that the party maintains a firm grip of the steering wheel as they lead us to destruction.

In closing, the military is not an option, we are past the days of military rule. But don't you think we could benefit from a transition period, akin to rebooting the system in safe mode? In computer parlance, booting a PC in safe mode becomes necessary when there is an identified issue with a process running on an operating system, but the issue cannot be resolved because the process protects itself from being turned off - the process could even be a virus, so the solution is that the PC is turned off - killing all processes, then turned on with only selected processes allowed to run, so that the now-inactive bad process can be removed. More like a house arrest so you can search the office, you get the point, right?
Conversely, our constitution is flawed, designed to give unbridled power to the ruling class. Most government policies are anti-people. You don expect these politicians to wake up and start changing laws that favour them - remember that they are immoral, valueless and not altruistic. A notable example is the issue of lawmaker salaries, who fixes the salaries? RMAFC! Who confirms the head of RMAFC and approves their operational budget? LAWMAKERS. Most of the allowances that lawmakers sit on are fixed by themselves and approved by the executive in their scratch-my-back-I-scratch-yours governing relationship. An aggrieved third party with the might, and a pool of violence to draw from, is needed to come in and boot the country in safe mode so we can attempt fixing what is broken, So, the military for an interim season, might not be such a bad idea.

Military was far better, democrazy has failed Nigeria. 21 years of uninterrupted years of democracy, what have we to show for it? We still blame only the President for everything as if we are under Military reign.

That you can even write this is something to show for it. I am sure you are less than 30 years that's why you love military rule. It is the same nonsense that made a lot of young dullards to support a relic from the past as president.

Almost all the laws were made by the Miitary, amended by the civilians, tell me one law the National Assembly has made sine 1999 that has impacted your life? It took 22 members of the Military Supreme Council to make laws, it takes 309 people who still can’t pass any meaningful act. It takes another 1,139 in the state House of Assemblies, yet things are worse?

I remember in the 90’s when they were begging Babangida then Abacha to hand over that democracy is the answer to Nigeria’s problems, 21 years of uninterrupted democrazy, I believe Fela best said it, clear road for jagajaga. Ordinary laws in the age of renewable energy to give electricity to Nigerians they can’t pass? Democrazy my azz, the ignorant populates in their colonial/military mentality will be blaming the President, not themselves (The National Assembly).

Playing smart but not been clever?, Stupid civilians have failed, democracy is not for animals, you can’t copy & paste a system of government, we do not know what we are practicing in Nigeria, go back & watch Sesame Street on PBS to start, I rest my case.
