I recently worked on a children's book illustration.
Finished the project so weeks back.
I would be sharing my experience and some lesson we all can learn from.
I definitely enjoyed the whole process ♥️♥️

Recently I got a gig to work on a children's book , it was a success.

A gentleman by name, AYO reached out to me here on nairaland after seeing my illustrations, I thought he wanted a portrait but it turns out he wanted me to make illustration for a children's book, then it occurred to me that I have never worked on a children's book before, which means if I should accept it , this would be my first one, well, I accepted.

I made a quick illustration giving him an idea on how the finished work would look like, he loved.
Then we began real discussion (cost, time e.t.c). After the discussion we were both on the same page, I request for 60% upfront payment , which he did.

In the process of drawing, it reminded me of flat illustration.
After weeks of drawing, communicating back and forth and making adjustments, the project came to an end (16 illustrations). The all process was a fun one.

WHAT WE CAN LEARN.
1. Whatever you know how to do ,make sure you put it out there ( internet / social media). There are so many people looking for you. My client found me because I post here on nairaland.

2. Always ask for an upfront payment before you fully committe yourself into any work.

3. Make sure you are constantly communicating with your client, send screenshots or image of what you done so far, and then ask for feedback back. (THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT)

4. Give your best
