If he has no idea what to eat, then he might even forget to say it. Even if he doesn't, she should have in mind what she wants them to eat. So he doesn't need to say what he wants before she comes up with a suggestion.

If he requested for soup and she cooked something entirely different from what he expected, that's not a solid reason to quit the relationship. This is where cooperation is required, he can teach her to cook if he knows how to, or get someone to do that. One can do anything for love isn't it?
