Thomas(not real name) is a final year law student in a federal University in Nigeria. His parents are Deeper Lifers and are committed workers in the church. When Thomas gained admission to the university, he had to leave home to his University’s state and was seriously compelled by his parents to remain in Deeper Life (like any Deeper Life parents will do.) In fact, his mother followed him all the way from their state to his University’s state to ensure her son is in the right hands, and by right hands they mean Deeper Lifers.

Now personally, I see nothing wrong with sticking with people you believe are predictable to some certain extent or you’re familiar with. But forcing, or manipulating your children to remain in thesame circle you’re been familiar with for years, even to the university level is just off.

Now eventually, this guy stopped going to Deeper Life. I don’t know if it’s school or his new environment that tore is eyes open, but he got tired of the whole thing, though, I doubt his parents are informed of his decision yet.

Anyways, what do I want to bring out of this. Dare said something that stuck with me till today about his parents. He said they’ve been living in poverty for years and have being looking up to God for a change in that status. As they prayed about this issue, they also believed as they were told by the church that if they dedicate their time to the church’s work, miracles will happen to them. Now they did have their secular work; they have their business and all. But they are not as dedicated to their secular works as they were to the church work. And so, what happened? The poverty refuse to go anywhere, but the dedication to the church work continues, because they believe their miracles are still coming.

And now, they are passing that mindset to their children, a mindset that Thomas refuses to accept and has rebelled against.
Some young Deeper Life people will read this and say, woaw, this is my family! Why? Because there are so many people whose success have been passively abandoned because of their dedication to the church and not their academics, their families or business. There are close relatives I know who have refuse to start a lucrative business when they should because they have to go to Monday Bible study, Tuesday Leaders Meeting, Wednesday evangelism, Thursday revival hour, Friday prayer meeting (optional sometimes), Saturday’s worker’s meeting and Sunday Service in the morning and House caring fellowship in the evening.
Now, I’m not saying there is no successful business owner in Deeper Life, there are quite a number of those. But most of them remain members or at least workers because these full time weekly service will not serve as an advantage to their business or family life.
In the past, it was a little more serious than this. Children of leaders, whose parents are more occupied with Church work and getting to heaven than their offstrings, become rebels, perverts or worse. Kumuyi spoke on this and somethings were moderated. But not all things.
The Deeper Life style is majorly isolation and overexposure, isolation with very ascetic dogma and Creeds and overexposure to the words of Kumuyi only.

After completing the 6 days weekly service for a year, the period were members could spend time with their families and friends in December or Christmas is used for the December retreat, far, far away from home. Sometimes, Christmas is passed on in this isolated location. Christmas is forbidden before, so, only programs in the Deeper Life Retreat is allowed.
There is even a retreat for Easter too, and you guessed it right, no other better time for that than it taking place during the Easter celebrations. And so again, less time with family or other important things in their lives, and more time with Pastor Kumuyi.

I think I mentioned in my past write up that Pastor Kumuyi monitors every topic and service to be held. I didn’t? Oya open your ear. All the message that will be preached either by Pastor Kumuyi or his hierarchies of Pastors already have their topics written down and approved by Kumuyi. So on a Thursday revival service where the Pastor of the Deeper life district church is allowed to preach, for instance, he is only basically representing Pastor Kumuyi, as the topics and sometimes points he will make has been written down and approved from the headquarters Church in Lagos. So the message preached in Deeper Life Abeokuta church is thesame one preached in Ado Ekiti Church, on thesame service day, at thesame time, and they dare not divert from the theme of the message, else they will be Disciplined, like Kumuyi was in the Apostolic Faith Church.

When Kumuyi is preaching in Lagos, anytime, even on days that are not usually service days, all Deeper Lifers all around Nigeria must(a big MUST) connect to it life. If something happens to the transmission, they’ll pray and go home, the service can’t continue without Kumuyi. And no, Deeper Life does not approve of inviting any other Pastor from a different denomination to preach in their church.

Infact, I believe this is the strangest of all, and most Deeper Life members may not know this but their leaders should. When you go to some Deeper Life Churches, you should find at least one empty chair with the sits reserved for pastors. Guess what the chair represent? Pastor Kumuyi’s presence. The empty chair is waiting for the day Kumuyi will visit the church, when he does, his special(long waiting) chair will be given to him.

So these people will spend most of the periods of their lives in Church, feeding directly from Kumuyi’s mouth and thoughts only, for what? Heaven at last, with Pastor Kumuyi and the angels in heaven singing the songs from the purple Deeper Life hymnal booklet.

Have you wondered were the particular dressing style of Deeper Life came from?

Undiluted truth. I'm still trying to break off (to an extent) from what my dad gave his whole existence for.

Lol, this one na omo deeper wey get juvenile delinquency for body. Unfortunately though on a more serious note, some of what he's wailing about happens in all established denominations in some form. My advice to you, eat the meat and spit out the bones. Better than your current "directionless" antichurch trajectory

Yea he is a real member indeed,
I just feel he is taking it too far by calling the church a cult, because i think every congregation has their guidelines and principles,

If everyone in the church has their unlimited freedom,by now am sure there will be diverse practices and doctrine,

Bro i suggest you focus on your spiritual aspect of life in any congregation you move to, You should answer only to Jesus your savior!
