It was high time the government ban crypto exchanges. It is one of the things killing our useless naira. People would rather store their funds in bitcoin and co. than to store it in naira.

Why do you think that is?

This will even make it worse.

You can't force confidence. If people don't have confidence in the Naira, it's not stupid orders like this that would force them to.

Crypto is an Avenue for scam, money laundering and also sponsoring of terrorism.

All crypto are speculation assets, it adds nothing to the economy. Also it is highly volatile.

Crypto network fees especially bitcoin are very high when sending them from one wallet to another.

Can crypto weaken the naira? I doubt, it is a digital asset..nothing more than that, cryptos are backed by currencies, without the naira or dollar, their will be no demand

@bold I need to get something clear, before the emergence of crypto, were there no scams, money laundering & terrorism? Are you saying if crypto stops now, all these criminal activities will stop? Which day crypto come out here that day? Yahoo boys used western union to receive funds back then & are still using it, why make it seem these things started recently because of crypto?

guys pls hold on, what does this mean, is it that all my money i invest in Luno, Roqqu, Binance and Abitrader is gone and i cant withdraw back my money, because I'm not understanding..

Do not panic. Your money is very safe, but the worse they can do is prevent you from withdrawing it. If even if they do that, your money is not gone as there will be other ways.

Then that's stupidity

You can't ban crypto, and if you ban traders bank account because they told you voluntarily they trade Bitcoin, then they would simply tell you they trade something else like cocoyam, or buruntashi

All crypto exchanges have accounts in Nigeria, from that account they use it to pay out cash.

If government close their accounts, they can't pay out

Crypto currency strengthens naira

With Crypto currency, there less demand for Crude Oil based Nigerian Forex and dollars, less demand for forex means more dollars in our foreign reserves and more Money for Goverment to spend on infrastructure

Now if we kill Crypto, everybody who uses crypto would head to CBN or BDC to buy Dollars leading to shortage and price increase

There was but everything went through the banking system which made it trackable.

With crypto, you cant track anything

This policy will only reaffirm the CBNs control over monetary policy. In the short run(if there are no alternate route for crypto users) it will lead to an increase in FX liquidity as most transactions will pass through the official route.
Virtual cards and PayPal can be used.

Wrong.

Infact it will drive a lot more transactions to the black market. The CBN is fighting effects rather than causes. The major cause has simply been the lack of confidence in the long term value of the Naira. If they like keep giving moronic orders, people would still rather hold dollars and crypto than Naira.

Likely reason:

1. They are trying to frustrate one A-list politician who is intending sale his crypto currencies to fund 2023 campaign.
2. They want to monopolize the crypto market as they did to the dollars.
3. The brain behind this ban is either daft or he/she is a stark illiterate.
4. They want to render a section of the country financially powerless.

Either ways, this government is bent on destroying all contemporary advancement that we toiled hard to acquire.

Very demonic lots.

They say the country is like this because our leaders are incompetent. I think it is by design, they don't want the middle class to actually have spending power. The poorer we are, the easier it is to buy votes for one bag of rice.

I've been at home for a year because of the strike. Now they no wan allow me turn 5k to 10k again?

We’re being govern by stupid and backward leaders. For those trading bitcoin pls always use peer to peer for your transactions. That way you’re dealing with an individual selling to you and not directly from the bank. They can only flag it if they know the source of the funds. Always use remitano and Binance peer to peer for buying and selling btc. Nonsense and ingredients

Nice suggestion. Peer to Peer for me!

I won't blame them, next election, if you like collect 5000 you will get worse treatment.

Look at NIN, some idiot just woke up and made a decision without putting lots of things into consideration, so I arrive Nigeria now with no way to get a phone number. Many government decisions are never thought through.

We deserve better than what we are getting, Nigerians are smart people, we should never settle for less , mediocrity should not be an option when choosing leaders.

I apologize for being part of those that encouraged people to vote for Buhari during the first election, I encouraged over 80 of my employees in Lagos to vote for him, I thought he was the messiah. I later realized that this man really has nothing much to offer. Someone that thinks today is Monday

We have all been blaming ourselves for this grave mistake. We just need to take heart, the deed has been done.

Before those exchanges came to Nigeria, there was a lot of cryptocurrency trade. Infact p2p trading (despite the trust issues) is larger than any exchange in Nigeria.

The richest man in the world is investing and trading crypto currency. ...recently Elon Musk promoted Dogecoin by tweeting it on his page and people from all over the world made money from the uptrend of the coin that was generated through that sentimental analysis...I did too. Cos I sold my money stored in USDT to buy Dogecoin...in less than 24 hours...I made 50% of my money and cash out again by selling the Doge to buy USDT.

Most institutional investors in Europe and America, I'm talking of banks and corporate investor brokers are embracing crypto investment and moving their portfolios to buy and trade cryto.....even rich men in America and Europe, China are moving their investment stored in gold into cryptocurremcy..
It shall not be well with this government that is determined to plunge everyone into poverty...work no dey, business failing everyday cos government is not supportive....if you know what's up, govt directly or indirectly has hands in the collapse of MBaforex...and now they are frustrating crypto trading.
You see, if person no one do Yahoo cos u view it to be immoral, and u are also being frustrated from doing normal buying and selling of digital currency on the internet market...then maybe it's better for one to kuku resort to fraud or yahooyahoo... Useless government.!!!!!!!

Man, I recently bought Dogecoin I hope the price soars. As for this move by Emefiele, it will only affect the crypto startups and not the people, so many people will adopt P2P lending in the coming days.

Instead of the Govt to provide support and regulation framework for individual and entities in bitcoin crypto exchange they are shutting out populace of future digital business opportunity. I can't blame the CBN because bitcoin innovation is just like internet in early 2000. Very soon everyone will have crypto digital assets with or without regulation. Only time will tell.

Adopt p2p

How much is network fees to send crypto.

You also have to cash out, how are you going to cash and get your funds into a Nigerian bank account when anything crypto is flagged
