The Federal Government on Thursday warned those planning a fresh #EndSARS protest at the Lekki Toll Gate, Lagos on Saturday to desist .
It said it would not allow any further resort to violence in the name of #EndSARS protest.
The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed , handed down the warning at a press conference in Abuja .
While admitting that peaceful protests are the constitutional rights of Nigerians, the minister said violent protests are not.
He said the chances that any peaceful protest would be hijacked at this time were very high .
The minister claimed that based on the intelligence at the disposal of the Federal Government, some Nigerian activists have linked up with others outside Nigeria, “ including subversive elements, ” with a view to destabilising the country, adding that “ We cannot and must not allow this to happen. ”
Mohammed said , “ Any further resort to violence in the name of EndSARS will not be tolerated this time .
“ The security agents are ready for any eventuality . A situation in which six soldiers and 37 policemen were murdered in cold blood by hoodlums will not repeat itself .

The attack , looting and razing of 269 private and public property will not happen again. The killing of 57 civilians will not be re- enacted.
“ We therefore strongly warn those who are planning to re- occupy Lekki Toll Gate on Saturday to desist. We know that many of those who have been loudest on social media in advertising the plan to reconvene in Lagos on Saturday are not even in Nigeria. They are elsewhere around the world fanning the embers of violence and inciting gullible people back home . No one should fall for their antics .

No government anywhere will allow a repeat of the kind of destruction, killing and maiming wrought by the hijackers of EndSars protests last year. After all, only one policeman – (plus four others) – was killed in the invasion of the US Capitol in January, yet the FBI has continued
to hunt down and prosecute the perpetrators. No life is more important than the other.”

Of course, we need justice

Lets see how that yobas protest will go.

Firstly for GENUINE protesters, what is the end goal of the protest you are organizing?

I’m sure it’s because of the Judicial panel that said the LCC should repossess the toll gate for insurance purpose.

Even in real life, you don’t always win immediately in court, there are some people that get justice and there are some that justice is misplaced but because it is the rule of law, people comply with justice to avert anarchy.

If you know you won’t believe in the rule of law, then why did you guys agree to the judicial inquiry panel in the first place? The panel was headed by a reputable Hon. Justice D. T Okuwobi.

LCC repossessing the toll gate currently is just part of the process of law and you can vent your anger if you think LCC will start collecting money at the tolls all because we think the dead must be respected. But don’t forget cars are already passing that same toll gate, the only difference is that toll fees are not being paid.

If I’m not wrong, they gave the panel 6-7month to complete their work and there are even a lot of people still in police detention and some awaiting justice for police brutality that the panels are working on their release and etc.

If you start another protest now without strategy, you will erode all the gain these guys have achieved and reset the clock back to start all over again.

We are all saying it’s only government sponsored hoodlums that are against it, but people that you destroyed their shops the last time without compensation won’t be happy with you. The man working in LCC, BRT, Commuters you block their way, the friends and families of the people you loot their shop won’t be happy too.

Everybody have right in a democracy. Just as you have your right to protest, other people have the right to exist and not be saddled with accepting the consequence of your action.

Sanwo-Olu should do a press briefing and calm nerves. Call some of the member of the judicial panel (if the law allows that) to state the reason why the LCC repossessed the tolls, tell the people the success and situation of the judicial panel, and calm their nerves that justice is a long process and the end game is the goal.

My above statement is for GENUINE protesters who care about the dead and are only protesting against LCC taking the tolls like they said.

However for the protesters with hidden agenda, those that want Nigeria to turn upside down, those that want to change the government by revolution, please go to Abuja to protest because that is the federal capital. Go and protest in Aso Rock, go and destroy Abuja, and if you’re afraid to go to Abuja, go and destroy your respective states and leave Lagos alone.
