I just read Ijaws are originally from Douala Cameroon. The Njọ (Ijaws) people of Douala migrated to Niger Delta during the Portuguese exploration of Africa.

Have read that some emigrated from Ghana too, during this same period. Don't know the facts. What I do know is that in general terms, they tend to live at the sea shores, which is weird! Add to that, their distinctive looks which is remarkably different from a lot of their immediate neighbors, you will start to wonder..
