For someone with a finance/accounting background, what do you suggest the person do to move, since it's not in the hot IT sector

Write the GMAT and get like 700 and apply to top business schools. That or go in via express entry. It's not easy getting visa sponsorship jobs in finance. Most of those jobs are in healthcare and IT.

I know of a man who came from South Africa (Indian parents) to Canada with Chemistry degree.

After years of teaching and being a citizen, he started a medical degree (he was almost 40). Went from $70,000 a yr to $150,000 starting salary.

It is never too late.

3 of the guy's 4 kids are now doctors as well, specialists too.

But this guy has no degree. It will be difficult to get in without a degree with that amount of money.

Yeah. No degree at that age will be an issue.

That's why I suggested healthcare. They are taking everyone for healthcare because of the serious need.

True talk.

I just want the response to be there for other people to see.

More grease to your elbow bro.

Stop replying him. There are so many of them on nairaland trying tooth and nail to convince people that the world's poverty capital, a country where 50 percent of its population live on less than 2 usd a day is better than everywhere else. Lol. I am not a western citizen but I have gained more from the west than Nigeria has given me. I earn close to a figure he quoted but I am working day and night to escape from here.

Let's assume you enter at 36, what are your chances of securing employment at 40?

You can look into this

Lol. False.

Pretty much all the comfortable and rich people I know are either trying to get permanent papers or sending their kids abroad.

Super rich people already have citizenship in various counties in case.

A British company that arranges special visas and diplomatic passports from smaller countries saw their Nigerian market balloon last year during Covid.

What smaller countries?

Depending on how ready you are to achieve your dreams, bro nothing will stop you in achieving those dreams if you ready, not even your age.

Do not let nay sayers deprive you of your joy.

Nothing beats schooling in a foreign country provided you are ready to stay there after school. You would have to work out a settlement plan, each country has its own settlement plan so that will be a different topic.

Your age has got nothing to do with you getting admission, whoever says otherwise isnt informed, I am based in the UK, I know what I am saying. What schools are after is paying the fees, fees are very expensive, the cheapest school in the UK for international students charges £12,500, you can do the maths for a 3yrs B.Sc program, also note that I said 3yrs as degree innthe UK is 3 yrs but international requirements to gaining admission isnt about the age, its about qualifications.

If you can raise the funds, you have 2yrs to work on your student visa after schooling in the UK. You will make all money spent within 1yr of working, jobs are plenty in the UK, I repeat, whoever says otherwise isnt informed.

If you can spend the money, you will reap the benefit eventually.

Thank you. You are well informed

Apply to Canadian schools for a 2year diploma in either Cyber Security or Big Data Analytics, those are the two courses that will make you earn some of the biggest salaries in the Western World now. 2years diploma in Canada will entitle you to 3years postgraduate work permit. As soon as you complete 1year of employment, you can apply and get permanent residence after which you can proceed to Bsc if you want but this time around, you will pay school fees same as citizen and can even get grant and loan from the govt. Two years after getting permanent residence in Canada starting out as a student, you will qualify and can apply for your citizenship. Apart from the fact that it is cheaper than the UK, it may take you like 10years in the UK before you can get their citizenship

Thank you so much poster, Very on point. Thanks for this new insight. Will look more into diplomas

That's why I suggest to people to take the quickest route to permanent residence.

Whatever else you want to do is possible as a PR/citizen.

Everything else na waste of time/money.

I've looked into those. Their citizenship does not even allow one travel to the US Visa free.
Re: After 7 Million Naira Savings, What Is NEXT, UK Or Canada? by cooooooks(m): 1:07pm On Feb 18, 2021
True. Some of the people pay for diplomatic passports.

The point is for them to be able to travel somewhere is they need to leave Nigeria abruptly.

These passports cost tens of thousands of dollars.

Yeah, between $100,000 to $150,000. I never saw it that way, to be honest but it makes sense with the way Nigeria is going.

7m won't go anywhere in UK or canada bro... Try look into smaller European (Schengen countries) and try your luck
Re: After 7 Million Naira Savings, What Is NEXT, UK Or Canada? by mukatic: 10:22pm On Mar 21, 2021
You've tried for yourself, having a savings of N7m.

But, honestly, it's a small amount of money on the global. It's barely $15,000 at the market exchange rate of N470/$...Small money for international fees.

My advise, continue with the business you're doing in Nigeria while training yourself or upskilling in I.T here.

Udemy, Datacamp, Coursera, et all are good. When you're well grounded in those I.T skills, you can apply for jobs outside Nigeria and they will foot your relocation bill.

That way, you'd have advanced your life here in Nigeria and also boost your prospect for international penetration.

Best!

A little back story.
I am a 36 YO guy with no university certificate, was too wayward to finish school in FUTO then, left school in my 2nd year for a 4 year course.

Tried my hands on business years later and currently have 7M naira saved.
Now, I want to go for degree and eventually start a family .
I am considering seeking admission in a UK or Canadian school. Luckily, I have sponsors .

For a guy of my age , looking to study IT related course or physiotherapy and eventually seeking residency, would you recommend UK or Canada?
Please I need supported answers.

Thank you all.

Look, I don't think I have ever insulted anyone on Niaraland B4.
You are being foolish. Your foolishness might probably have something to do with lack of education.
7million naira can set u up here in 9ja 4life....u will not be reliant on government. But in abroad expecially those places u mentioned 7million naira is just around 23 thousand CAD. It's even worse in UK your almighty 7million will turn to 13k.

Better use the money to develope yourself here so that when your business grows..u can expand to abroad. Abroad no dey run...u can always visit them whenever you want.

Well it's your Panadol to swallow...the ball is in your court.

This tweet is so silly and reeks of ignorance, this Nigeria you're advising him to do you know what will happen in 3-4 years. Do you know what value that #7m might have in some years. People that were able to move to Canada 5years ago with like #5m have to double it now. Food inflation, insecurity and instability. Most people just want to live in an environment that works, where you just won't die for nothing. Where you can give your children a better chance at life, traveling abroad doesn't guarantee you'll be rich, but it's still better than Nigeria by far. You can't also guarantee that the #7m you're asking him to invest here in Nigeria will make him rich considering it's 'who do you know' for so many processes. You have one story of someone that failed i have so many that were successful some even left with nothing. Please don't discourage anyone, invest your own money in Nigeria and let people that want something better for themselves and loved ones do so too.
