Nice, so it means a Banker with good certification can actually move to Canada.

Thanks the detailed facts, i love the fact that you compared the rates.

7 of my friends who came here as bankers got great jobs in banks within 4 months. It’s a paradise for Naija bankers and many Naija bankers are Managers of strategic units in many financial institutions and banks here.

You cannot use Nigerian law to work in Britain. British law is different. Japanese law is different. Every country's law is different. You only use law in the country you learnt the law.

Japan and China do tend to like English teachers. The rest countries, don't give any F*** about English. They program their internet, keyboards, phone, books and all media in their language.

A cousin of mine was a medical doctor in Nigeria.
He went to Canada. Those guys told him to learn again, their Canadian medicine and diseases.
He later went to UK. UK told him to learn UK medicine again!
This is somebody that was collect proper salary in Nigeria.
It's because he was attacked by armed robbers in Nigeria, that's why he ran out with his family.
since ur cousin is already a doctor and wanted to practice in canada he should have sat for the US medical licencing exam(USMLE) .if he passes it then he can practice as a doctor in the US,Canada or uk.but it might be tiresome for someone who is already a doctor except u very determined and have that strong desire and interest to practice in canada.

Software development/programming. First pickup a book on a language such as Java. Read it and see if it’s something you’ll like to do. If so, download the development environment and start writing and practicing code.

As others mentioned, Networking, Cyber Security, Database Administration, etc. are other aspects of IT you can look into.

Thank you so much boss but you and I know all those courses are difficult.
Isn't there any aspect of IT that's soft and easy to learn and still lucrative when one goes abroad?

Think about it - if it's easy to learn, wouldn't it be flooded and it will not be in demand? Plus pay will be low correct? Bottom line is, nothing comes easy. Networking may not be as difficult. Anything is achievable if effort and hard work is put into it though.

AML. Some got the jobs before doing the CAMS certification or whatever you guys call it.

Your strategy should be to join the WhatsApp groups for each of the banks’ alumni in Canada. It’s the sure path to getting jobs as many of them are now managers in critical units and departments of various financial institutions in Canada.

The first and the most important focus about traveling abroad is JOB guarantee..
Now what type of job is most sought after in the country of choice?

A simple search on google using "Most sought after skill in Canada or Dubai" will serve as a useful guide to help plan towards a successful
relocation.

From the search we saw, Forklift operator, Truck driving, Plumber ,Electrician ,construction worker and Mining jobs tops the chart for skilled labour.

all these can help you prepare ahead and get professional training and certification to help you land a lucrative job security.
In some countries like Canada, and new Zealand work permit is not required in your skill is not readily available in that town you wish to relocated to.
There a good number of Skill acquisition training centers in Nigeria with international accreditation that could help you in that direction.

Please, can you give examples of such training centres with international accreditation?

Thanks

That's also another dead field. If you don't have serious connections at the beginning forget seafaring. IT is the greatest field now immediately after the medical line.

DEAD Field! You're really missing it then. It is my profession and I will tell you that it is not by connection. There are opportunities from the beginning while in the academy. It is not by connection that companies pick the majority of the cadets trained abroad and work for them in return. Many also whom weren't picked by companies apply to various firms too in order to get their career started. So it's not all about having connection, everyone destiny is not same and how one puts his/her effort in achieving dreams matters too. Seafaring is a very beautiful profession that I would love my son in the future to engage in unless he accept some other profession.

The best place to have a stroke is when you jump into a cab in Canada and you realize the taxi driver holds a PhD...

quote author=apolonius post=99197273]

Yes, but you will get a Permanent Residence in Canada with the Express Entry from day one while it will take you 4-7 years to get its UK equivalent, Indefinite Leave.

Let me give you examples of earnings between the UK and Canada.

In the UK, qualified teachers earn between £27,000-34, 000. In Ontario, Canada, they earn $CAD 90-110, 000.

Nurses in Canada earn about two-three times more than their UK counterparts.

Doctors in many places in Canada earn over $350,000. In the UK, it’s less than £70,000.

New Lecturers in the UK earn £30-45,000. Starting rank for their counterparts in Canada is Assistant Professor and they start with $95,000-125,000 depending on the field or area of specialism.

Of course, these are median rates and salaries, and the £ is stronger than the CAD$. Both pay different taxes.

The most important thing is that it takes some time to settle into these societies depending on who is mentoring or guiding you.

Some of these jobs may require you to get licensed and will the process will depend on your dedication and how fast you can push.

Accountants who come to Canada from Nigeria can start AML Analyst and Business Analyst roles pending when they are licensed to go for full accounting jobs. These roles pay anywhere between $50-95,000, depending on your experience and who is guiding you.

In my years in the UK, many Naija UK graduates and students were happy working in ASDA, Morrison’s, Sainsbury’s, doing security jobs, carer e.t.c. These include MSC, LLM and PhD holders from great UK universities.

Since, I came to Canada. I have watched tens of Nigerians come from banks and the streets in many local places in Naija to start bank jobs...I am yet to see ANY except those just coming in today and refugee claimants do the jobs that Naija people in the UK do and celebrate.[/quote]

People start somewhere. Some of those drivers have great jobs.

For example, the Naija couple who have the leading bakery around the GTA were doing Uber and working in Walmart less than 2 years ago. Today, they get $1-2m annually. They are close to us.

A close friend of mine left UniBen as a law lecturer, and did warehouse jobs for over 6 years while doing another LLM and a PhD in Osgoode Hall Law School, York University. He finished and he is a professor in a major university near Toronto taking home $170k. He lives in a home he bought for peanuts now worth $1m and has a son finishing a PhD on $70k scholarship.

Another left Naija as a lawyer working for the EFCC and started here working in a prison. Her hubby was unemployed for 2 years. Today she has a law firm and her hubby is a senior manager with a large corporation.

Another a State Counsel in Naija, hustled a bit and now running a promising law firm here.

2 of the people I mentioned are active on Nairaland, helping many people.

My close friend does Uber with his GMC. But his day job is a Project Co-ordinator earning $6-10k monthly in a major engineering company.

2 friends do food deliveries but are AML Managers in Scotia and TD banks earning close to $10k monthly.

Another friend, a Ghanaian, is a police officer working on the Canadian National Intelligence team taking home $140k annually, but he does food deliveries for extra cash most evenings.

I have done food deliveries. Did that stop me from having a $1m home within 2 years in Canada?

4 of my friends came after us to Canada 2-3 years ago. We used to live in the same compound. Today they are managers in big banks and financial firms.

I can go on and on. All of these people own their own homes, drive exotic cars and came to Canada less than 3-4 years ago.

I guess you are one of those who allow impressions delude you.

Many Nigerians are ignorant and believe funny stories to justify them staying in funny and terrible comfort zones. Who will blame them? Seek knowledge, seek help.

This thread reminds me:

a truck driver in the US or Canada makes $70k/yr

In the UK, they make about 20k less.

People also need to remember that your mentality, work ethic, and savviness play a role. That's the difference between someone who works their way up, and someone who just complains that it's not easy enough. It's also the difference between someone who realizes Nigeria is a great place to be a small businessman, and someone who has no idea.

If I may chip in, art courses in the west are highly competitive and saturated (e.g. Law, Political Science). They also vary from one jurisdiction to another just like some previous posters have pointed out. Whereas, science is the same everywhere. Even medicine and accountancy that requires you to undergo their own versions of the aforementioned courses are in very high demand. I am a lawyer but I have to acknowledge that science is more important to the development of a country than arts. The Asian tigers of Japan, South Korea and Hong Kong got to where they are today because of the sciences.
but Nigeria passionately love art courses na.

And a strong aversion towards anything science (because it has to do with serious brain work, tasking, logical reasoning) and also tends to question thier cultural and religious beliefs.

for good reason mathematics is the number one subject that school students fail the most. Infact most are relegated and restricted to the classroom only.

Please this is an important thread. We need to continue discussing. The most important thing about traveling abroad is going prepared with de right certificates or skills needed in those countries. I studied Biochemistry and of course is useless here. Am thinking of getting into tech or is the biochemistry OK to land me a job job in Canada? Can I rely on it?
