Some people might yell "blasphemy"; but from my personal experience, Maya's best point is animation and 3DS max best point is modelling.

ive been using max for the past 4 years and i recently took 2 week self training course on maya but much to my dismay i realised that there was practically no difference between the two programs except for 3ds max's ability to optimize ure system resources as against maya which requires a little extra power to get things done. maya has all the available resources to give u ur desired need as against max's dependency on third party plug ins. but to put it simply max is stronger in the gaming industry and maya in film. but they can both give u the same results all that matters is ur "hand".

hell yeah 2buff, am screaming blasphemy! anyway, i think it boils down to the artist. i prefer maya, but ive seen awesome stuff done with hash's animation master which costs just about 200usd versus max or mayas 2000usd tag.i think its abt which package one is comfy with.

the truth about most if not all the animation software, is that it actually depends on how well the user knows the software. but when it comes to animation, there's an exception in maya because of it's trax editor. when I started to study animation I was into 3dmax but I had to change to maya cus the UI captivated me the first time I opened it and I found a lot of things easier to do in maya compared to 3dmax and there is a shortcut key for almost everything in maya which makes work a lot faster.

This is quite true. Personaly I use studio max but my friend uses maya and we are both good. He started out with max but switched to maya and says its better. A lot of the things he says maya has as advantage over max are things I find out that I do easily in Max but he probably doesn't know how to go about them on that platform. However I must comment that he showed me some wonderful tools in his version of maya (Maya 7) which made animating fire, lightning etc as simple as click and drop. Whereas to get the same effects done in max takes a looooooooot more than that. The good news for me however is that there are many downloadable third party plugins ans max scripts for studio max that bridges the few gaps I noticed.

My opinion is that both platforms are very powerful and one only has to try to master at least one of them.

I don't use any of 'em, I guess u stick with what u start with. I started with Cinema 4D and it delivers just as well as Maya and Max (maybe even better IMO - don't want to start a war). Used modo for a while and I must say its a great subdiv modeller but no animation then so I switched back. Maya or Max, I say Cinema4D!!! cheesy

Cheers.

3dsmax is good for modeling and rendering. While maya is more suitable for animation and effects.

hey guys , Maya is the best, thats why its use more in Hollywood, if u understand advance maya u will easily be able to tell.if you use maya with Linux operating system like in hollywood then u will jump on maya,

i think the problem In nigeria(i luv my country), u guys use windows and it actually limits how much u can do except the surface u see
BUT , The main thing it all solely depend on the user.how imaginative or creative are you.

undecided undecided Maya is not the "BEST''. There is no such thing as the 'BEST' 3D software. If you're an advanced user of XSI,Lightwave,Maya and Max, you'd be the last person to echo that erroneous 'BEST' sentiment. Using multiple apps exposes you to the strengths and weaknesses of each one and you will have to live with the indisputable fact that some apps can perform certain task better than others. You can still use one app to do everything but that doesn't change that fact.
