Recently, the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) made release compelling Nigerians to link their NIN to phone. Also, the government agency also instructs all network operators in the country to stop new SIM registrations immediately and disconnect all their customers who fail to link to the NIN in 2 weeks.

This has led to a spike in the number of people visiting NIMC registration centres over the weeks since no one wants their line disconnect. In fact, in many of these centres, people disregard Covid-19 safety guidelines. They have witnessed a crowd much more than what was expected and many appeared without a facemask.

The NIN enrolment is compulsory for every Nigerian and is used as a means to verify the identities of citizens. The individual NIN records are stored safely in the National Identity Database. However, if you have enrolled for the NIN, have gotten your slip but finally misplaced it, I have a piece of good news for you. You don’t need to re-enrol for the service.
