Can You Share Your Bible Reading Tips? by Okobaba1(m): 9:51am On Feb 26, 2021
A friend of mine recently complained to me that since he became a Christian he has never been able to really enjoy reading or studying the Bible.

I shared my own tips, which include praying before I begin studying, scheduling what to study about, and taking notes as I go along.

He keeps saying mine is difficult.

I dunno if you have something different you can share.

You enjoy the books better when you read through as if you are reading through a novel.
The first time I took time through the book of Genesis as I would any other book out there, I did not expect it would be fun but I became engrossed by the time I got to about the 5th chapter and I believe I finished the book in less than a week. But, I wanted to know what was next.. so I started on Exodus, and before long, I was reading through Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy - I stopped at about Joshua 7(I realized the odyssey was over at that point). All this in less than a month.

What did I learn? I was finally exposed to the Truth of God's plan and His entire design for the Old Covenant. I realized after reading that I was indeed truly deceived, as far as the truth of God is concerned.

I continued reading through the rest of the Bible, the prophets, eventually reading through the Gospel, discovering through that a pattern I had seen while reading the Pentateuch, the definition of a Covenant. My mind was blown... and it was around the same time I realized the Truth of God for this generation.

If you don't like to read, then listen to the audio Bible. I was forced to listen to the Gospels this weekend, and it was refreshing to be reminded of all the cool stories.

Hi there.

I think that everyone has to find a system that works for them.

For me, growing up, I enjoyed reading the "story" portions of the Bible, so I became very familiar with pretty much everything except quite a bit of the Prophets. Because the New Testament was a much shorter read by comparison, it was easier to read the epistles than it was to read the Prophets and Proverbs etc.

Much later on, I read the Bible through with the Message Bible. Although I was happy to have done a read-through that I was conscious of, I found the Message translation an awful experience of the Scriptures. I've never used it again.

The method I use now makes the Bible a very exciting read for me. I read from multiple sections of the Bible everyday. That allows me to sort of experience several parts of the Bible at once. I don't have to wait too long to get to those parts.

I divided up the Bible into the histories (Genesis to Esther), the songs, prayers, and epics maybe (Job to Song of Solomon), the Prophets (Isaiah to Malachi), the Gospels (Matthew to John obviously), the epistles (Romans to Jude), and Revelation. Except for Revelation out of which I read only one chapter daily, as a rule I read two chapters everyday from each of these sections in order. I also prioritize reading through the New Testament portions first.

This allows me to experience multiple "flavors" of Bible truth everyday. I find it very exciting and I look forward to it. It might not work for everyone. Anyone can adapt the system though if they want.
