No sir!
It's the kingdom of God versus the kingdom of this world.

John 18:36:
"Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence."
I am afraid that is what your doctrines teach you but not what the Bible says at all.

God has never pitched Himself against the Kingdom of this world. He made the world for man, and the man chose to rule over Himself, so God let Him. God had His mind set on His own Kingdom from the get-go and that is why He chose for Himself a people and create for Himself His own Kingdom, the Kingdom of God, where He would rule forever in.

If you read that Bible, as you would any other book, from start to finish, you would realize that from the beginning, God never pitched Himself against man or man's Kingdom, but made for Himself His own Kingdom over which He and He alone would rule, forever. And those two Kingdoms are
a) Kingdom of Israel with Israel being His people
b) The Kingdom of God with His followers as His heirs.

You are coming close. Just to be sure,

Are you saying that the body of a person is different from his soul?
Are you saying that except God kills the soul of a person, such souls cannot die?
I have said nothing different from what I have said to this point since more than 10 posts again.

But you rejoiced in knowing God purely from intellectually point of view as charged.

And you said:

Knowing God with your mind is probably the intellectual component of knowing God. It isn't complete!

Only a person like you who uses their God given brain only to merely believe would assume others use their God given brain in one way alone.

It's like when you read "humans shall not live by bread alone", you can not see that the reason is, 'so you do not become malnourished' or have it taken away from you.

The old testament law of "you shall not kill" or "you shall not bear false witness" is valid even in the NT. The OT laws are divided into categories:

There are
1. Religious ceremonial laws
2. Moral laws
3. Civil laws
4. Interpersonal/relationship laws
5. Laws on Hygiene etc
No matter how you try to divide them up, all 613 commandments in total, are all part and parcel of the same Old Covenant as given and written down by Moses(Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy). The covenant was ratified in Deuteronomy 30 and in there it is made clear to all that the agreement therein is between God and the descendants of Jacob in the land of Israel.

Deuteronomy 30 vs 15-20 (ERV)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
15. “Today I have given you a choice between life and death, success and disaster.
16. I command you today to love the Lord your God. I command you to follow him and to obey his commands, laws, and rules. Then you will live, and your nation will grow larger. And the Lord your God will bless you in the land that you are entering to take for your own.
17. But if you turn away from your God and refuse to listen, if you are led away to worship and serve other gods,
18. you will be destroyed. I am warning you today, if you turn away from God, you will not live long in that land across the Jordan River that you are ready to enter and take for your own.

19. “Today I am giving you a choice of two ways. And I ask heaven and earth to be witnesses of your choice. You can choose life or death. The first choice will bring a blessing. The other choice will bring a curse. So choose life! Then you and your children will live.
20. You must love the Lord your God and obey him. Never leave him, because he is your life. And he will give you a long life in the land that he, the Lord, promised to give to your ancestors—Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”
shadeyinka:
But then the question was:
Why did God forbid the children of Israel from marrying the Cananites?

The question is not about the laws perse but WHY God gave the laws!
He told the Israelites why He gave them those laws, over and over again...

Deuteronomy 4 vs 1-2 (ERV)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. “Now, Israel, listen to the laws and to the commands that I teach you. Obey them and you will live. Then you can go in and take the land that the Lord, the God of your ancestors, is giving you.
2. You must not add to what I command you. And you must not take anything away. You must obey the commands of the Lord your God that I have given you.

....again...

Deuteronomy 6 vs 1-3(ERV)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. “These are the commands, the laws, and the rules that the Lord your God told me to teach you. Obey these laws in the land that you are entering to live in.
2. You and your descendants must respect the Lord your God as long as you live. You must obey all his laws and commands that I give you. If you do this, you will have a long life in that new land.
3. Israelites, listen carefully and obey these laws. Then everything will be fine with you. You will have many children, and you will get the land filled with many good things[a]—just as the Lord, the God of your ancestors, promised.
...again

Deuteronomy 8 vs 1-2
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. “You must obey all the commands that I give you today, because then you will live and grow to become a great nation. You will get the land that the Lord promised to your ancestors.
2. And you must remember the entire trip that the Lord your God has led you through these 40 years in the desert. He was testing you. He wanted to make you humble. He wanted to know what is in your heart. He wanted to know if you would obey his commands.
3. He humbled you and let you be hungry. Then he fed you with manna—something you did not know about before. It was something your ancestors had never seen. Why did the Lord do this? Because he wanted you to know that it is not just bread that keeps people alive. People’s lives depend on what the Lord says.
4. These past 40 years, your clothes did not wear out, and your feet did not swell.
5. You must remember that the Lord your God teaches and corrects you as a father teaches and corrects his son.
...again

Deuteronomy 9 vs 25-29
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
25. “So I bowed down before the Lord 40 days and 40 nights, because the Lord said he would destroy you.
26. I prayed to the Lord. I said, ‘Lord God, don’t destroy your people. They belong to you. You freed them and brought them out of Egypt with your great power and strength.
27. Remember your promise to your servants Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Forget how stubborn these people are. Don’t look at their evil ways or their sins.
28. If you punish your people, the Egyptians might say, “The Lord was not able to take his people into the land he promised them. And he hated them. So he took them into the desert to kill them.”
29. But they are your people, Lord. They belong to you. You brought them out of Egypt with your great power and strength.’
If you are trying to find out why God says what He says, then you are on your own there. God is True and His commandments are meant to be obeyed, not explained by the minds of mere men.

Even though the parable speaks clearly of the mixture of God's true children with impostors, it DOES NOT condone a union of light and darkness.
2Cor 6:14:
"Be you not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship has righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion has light with darkness?"
The Parable says no such thing. Stop injecting your own meaning into the teachings of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ warned you against doing such.

As for 2 Corinthians 6 vs 14, I have told you several times that it does not go with any of Jesus Christ's own teachings.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
15. Then the Lord God took [d]the man and put him in the garden of Eden to [e]tend and keep it.

17. but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you[f] shall surely die.”
God warned Adam that on the day Adam ate from the tree of Knowledge of good and evil, Adam would surely die, and it was so...

Genesis 3 vs 17-19 (ERV)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
17. Then to Adam He said, “Because you have heeded the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree of which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat of it’: “Cursed is the ground for your sake; In toil you shall eat of it All the days of your life.
18. Both thorns and thistles it shall [f]bring forth for you, And you shall eat the herb of the field.
19. In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread Till you return to the ground, For out of it you were taken; For dust you are, And to dust you shall return.”
verse 19 is the Judgement placed on man for His unbelief from the time of Adam.

Interesting conversation going on here. From all that's been said, something jumps at me:

Former atheists, like Buda and Kobo, who are now "christians" seem to have a different, somewhat philosophical interpretation of the scriptures from "mainstream" christians, like Shade.

The majority of christians, including members of JW like Max, would find the position of Shade and Max agreeable- No "true christian"( whatever that means) would marry an atheist. I might be wrong but it takes a christian who has passed through the eye of athiesm or at least agnosicm to even entertain the thought.

So my quandary remains why is former athiests idea of christianity different from other christians?

Anyone?
As Shadeyinka clearly explained, his understanding of the person of Jesus Christ is driven by the doctrines and teachings he recieved from men, even though he now claims he no does not follow the churches of men like the JWS do. Unfortunately, these are the same doctrines and teachings which Jesus Christ clearly stated nullify the very power of God in the lives of those who imbibe them.

Mark 7 vs 1-13 (ERV)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Now when the Pharisees gathered to him, with some of the scribes who had come from Jerusalem,
2. they saw that some of his disciples ate with hands that were defiled, that is, unwashed.
3. (For the Pharisees and all the Jews do not eat unless they wash their hands properly,[a] holding to the tradition of the elders,
4. and when they come from the marketplace, they do not eat unless they wash. And there are many other traditions that they observe, such as the washing of cups and pots and copper vessels and dining couches.[c])
[b] 5.
And the Pharisees and the scribes asked him, “Why do your disciples not walk according to the tradition of the elders, but eat with defiled hands?”
6. And he said to them, “Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written,
“‘This people honors me with their lips,
but their heart is far from me;

7. in vain do they worship me,
teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’

8. You leave the commandment of God and hold to the (doctrines and rules)** tradition of men.”
9. And he said to them, “You have a fine way of rejecting the commandment of God in order to establish your tradition!
10. For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and your mother’; and, ‘Whoever reviles father or mother must surely die.’
11. But you say, ‘If a man tells his father or his mother, “Whatever you would have gained from me is Corban”’ (that is, given to God)[d]—
12. then you no longer permit him to do anything for his father or mother,
13. thus making void the word of God by your tradition that you have handed down. And many such things you do.”
** substituted from another Bible translation for better understanding of what is impacted

My understanding of who God is and what God says is not from the mouths of men but from God Himself revealing His Word(Truth) as He said He would even as far back as the Prophets of Old. According to Jesus Christ, those who are His are those who accept(trust) and obey His commandments/Teachings, the very Truth of God.

So, lest's consider those verses in the original context in which they were given.

Mark 16 vs 7-13 (ERV)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
7. Jesus called his twelve apostles together. He sent them out in groups of two and gave them power over evil spirits.
8. This is what he told them: “Take nothing for your trip except a stick for walking. Take no bread, no bag, and no money.
9. You can wear sandals, but don’t take extra clothes.
10. When you enter a house, stay there until you leave that town.
11. If any town refuses to accept you or refuses to listen to you, then leave that town and shake the dust off your feet[a] as a warning to them.”

12. The apostles left and went to other places. They talked to the people and told them to change their hearts and lives.
13. They forced many demons out of people and put olive oil on[b] many who were sick and healed them.
Notice how the original message contained becomes much clearer and you realize it never had anything to do with that which you previously assumed?

Kobojunkie:
As Shadeyinka clearly explained, his understanding of the person of Jesus Christ is driven by the doctrines and teachings he recieved from men, even though he now claims he no does not follow the churches of men like the JWS do. Unfortunately, these are the same doctrines and teachings which Jesus Christ clearly stated nullify the very power of God in the lives of those who imbibe them.

You seem to forget that Jesus commissioned His disciples to preach the gospel to all creatures.

Mar 16:15-17:
"And he said to them, Go you into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believes and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believes not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;"

The duty of preaching and discipling is by men.

Rom 10:14-15:
"How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!"

Do you preach the gospel of Christ?

The same Jesus Christ that sent us to preach did not condemn those who did not accept His teachings. He ate and dined with them regularly too. Now, please go back and re-read what you are told in Mark 6

Re-Read what is written in the above passage, paying attention to the part in red, please. undecided

Let's assume the woman in this case even went to this man's house to preach to him(let's just go with your play here). Obviously, she was not refused and he probably listened to her but said "no, not for me". Was she supposed to shove it down his throat at that point? If she had been rejected would she have ended up marrying the guy? grin

Jesus Christ never said that if they refuse to accept my teaching, they are evil and you should distance yourself from them. That is not the teaching of Jesus Christ, and He never ever said that at all. undecided

Being a man in understanding means not being gullible in accepting the doctrines of men.

Eph 4:14:
"That we from now on be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;"
Again, according to Jesus Christ Himself.

Matthew 18 vs 3-4
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3. Then he said, “The truth is, you must change your thinking and become like little children. If you don’t do this, you will never enter God’s kingdom.
4. The greatest person in God’s kingdom is the one who makes himself humble like this child.
If you and your manly understanding has not shielded you from the doctrines and traditions of me, something you admit you are chuck full of, isn't it time to do as Jesus Christ commanded, become like a child, even in your understanding, so He, Jesus Christ can teach you anew of Himself instead. That way you can at least know you are guaranteed a place in His Heaven? undecided

If I was to take your mode of argument, I will say that the bible speaks of so many other kingdoms such as Egypt, Assyria, Babylon, Rome, Israel, Judah the etc.
But not withstanding, what do you think the world signifies?
John 7:7:
"The world cannot hate you; but me it hates, because I testify of it, that the works thereof are evil."
Who is the Prince of this world?
John 12:31:
"Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out."
Does this prince have a dominium?
Again, that entire book, is centered around 2 Kingdoms belonging to God Himself

a) The Old Testament is centered around the Kingdom of Israel which God promised to Abraham and Covenanted with the Children of Israel who are His Children
b) The New Testament is centered around the Kingdom of God under a New Covenant which God promised He would make happen through Abraham, to bless the entire people of the World with.

2 Kingdoms, 2 Covenants, 1 God.

Why? Did Jesus Christ suggest these stages of yours or are you looking to receive "Heavenly" brownie points for this or something? undecided
It took the disciples just about 3.5 years to learn the teachings of Jesus Christ, and once done, they were sent out by Jesus Christ into the World (Jungle). undecided
And you missed the road right from the get go. undecided
Interesting... so you took on just enough of Christ's teachings but not all? Interesting!undecided
Do you want a pat on the back for this? undecided
How did you get a "direct" living relationship when you never abandoned the doctrines and teachings of men? Or did Jesus Christ lie? undecided
OMG! You fed yourself more of the same toxic soup Jesus Christ warned against, yet you claim you have a "living" relationship with God. Again, did God lie?
Wow... you "feed" yourself a whole load of doctrines there. Did Jesus Christ lie?
Service based on doctrines?
Stability through experience? Where is this described in the teachings of Jesus Christ?

** substituted from another Bible translation for better understanding of what is impacted
I asked about the imbibing of doctrines and traditions of men. Did Jesus Christ lie? undecided
Your comprehension is pitiable!

I outlined my stages of spiritual experience from kindergarten age to adulthood. I outlined my failures, doubts and eventual growth in the spirit. This is experience!

Do you have experience of preaching the gospel to others?
Have you tried to heal the sick?
Have you attempted casting out demons?

The above were the final instructions of Christ Jesus to His disciples. Obedience will give you experience: for Jesus didn't explain how to preach, heal nor cast out demons. The best we can do is to imitate Him to the best of our understanding and faith.

At the end of the day, every Christian will have his experience of Him to truely be able to say " I know Christ"

Matthew 7 vs 21-13 (ERV)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
21. “Not everyone who calls me Lord will enter God’s kingdom. The only people who will enter are those who do what my Father in heaven wants.
22. On that last Day many will call me Lord. They will say, ‘Lord, Lord, by the power of your name we spoke for God. And by your name we forced out demons and did many miracles.’
23. Then I will tell those people clearly, ‘Get away from me, you people who do wrong. I never knew you.’
What you continue to list are not signs that you in fact a follower of Jesus Christ.
shadeyinka:

Jesus Christ gave His apostles about 50 something or more commandments. Harping on one, while ignoring the rest will not make your situation any better.
shadeyinka:
At the end of the day, every Christian will have his experience of Him to truely be able to say " I know Christ"
It is not your experience that leads you to know Jesus Christ. Instead, it is your acceptance and obedience of His every commandments/teaching that bears witness on your behalf of your knowing Him. So if you spent 20 years wearing the badge, but never really got down to accepting and obeying His every teaching and commandment, you are no better than the person who has known him only a couple of months, who still refuses to accept and obey His commandments/teachings. undecided

The Word of God is like a consuming Fire... and it is that Fire that will judge your so-called experience/works at the end. If your experience is built on the doctrines and traditions of men, instead of the very Word of God, Jesus Christ's Truth, you might as well jump ship at this point. undecided

12. When you enter that home, say, ‘Peace be with you.’
13. If the people in that home welcome you, they are worthy of your peace. May they have the peace you wished for them. But if they don’t welcome you, they are not worthy of your peace. Take back the peace you wished for them.
14. And if the people in a home or a town refuse to welcome you or listen to you, then leave that place and shake the dust off your feet.
[b] 15.
I can assure you that on the judgment day it will be worse for that town than for the people of Sodom and Gomorrah.
16. “Listen! I am sending you, and you will be like sheep among wolves. So be smart like snakes. But also be like doves and don’t hurt anyone.
17. Be careful! There are people who will arrest you and take you to be judged. They will whip you in their synagogues.
18. You will be taken to stand before governors and kings. People will do this to you because you follow me. You will tell about me to those kings and governors and to the non-Jewish people.
19. When you are arrested, don’t worry about what to say or how you should say it. At that time you will be given the words to say.
20. It will not really be you speaking; the Spirit of your Father will be speaking through you.

Jesus went to the house of the "sinners" who were ready to receive Him and His gospel.

An example is:

Luk 19:5-7:

"And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said to him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at your house. And he made haste, and came down, and received him joyfully. And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, That he was gone to be guest with a man that is a sinner."

There is a difference between a humble sinner (willing to change) and a decided sinner (Atheists)

You don't know what Jesus can do to wicked people. Jesus attacked them verbally and once, he used a whip.

Jesus did not tolerate wilful sinners as you think. Interestingly, Jesus was softer on the woman caught in adultry. He said, neither do I condemn you, go and sin no more. Wilful sinners like Atheists will want Jesus to pat them on their backs as they insist on their atheism

Mat 23:13:
"But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for you neither go in yourselves, neither suffer you them that are entering to go in."

Luk 11:46:
"And he said, Woe to you also, you lawyers! for you lade men with burdens grievous to be borne, and you yourselves touch not the burdens with one of your fingers."

John 2:14-16:
"And found in the temple those that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of money sitting: And when he had made a whip of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers' money, and overthrew the tables; And said to them that sold doves, Take these things hence; make not my Father's house an house of merchandise."

Jesus Christ never said any of this. So you assume it should be so is akin to adding to His commandments which is against His teachings.

This is different from the picture of Jesus you like to know.
You obviously need to spend time learning who Jesus Christ is rather than learning from Him through verses randomly compiled. Jesus Christ attacked those in His Father's house for turning it into a den of thieves. He railed against the Religious leaders of His time who had set themselves up as authorities as far as the things of God were concerned, yet they were nothing but blind leaders who were in it for their selfish gain. undecided
Jesus Christ did not go easy on the woman caught in adultery. He already made it clear severally in His teaching that He did not come to condemn those who are sinners but to save those who will be saved. undecided
He even told the Jewish leaders who were trying to kill him at one point that the reason why they do not believe in Him is that God has not given them to Him. undecided
The Gospels have been available to the world for about 2000 years at this point. Rather than trying hard to insert words in His mouth here and there, why not sit down, and let Jesus Christ Himself teach you who He is and what His teaching is about instead? undecided
