The Yoruba ethnic race is one if not the only ethic race in Africa that has it own religion and a very unique and beautiful culture that is well appreciated around the world wherever it has found it ground. The Yoruba religion and culture travelled during the slave trade era just as how Christianity and Islam travelled into the geographical location called Nigeria during the colonization 15th century and Islam to the Northern part around 11th century.
The Yoruba religion and culture being a very lovely, beautiful and Unique practice where it also give room for others to practice their religion and culture was well accepted at places it got to, because people come to realise that the Yoruba religion is a peaceful religion. But it is so unfortunate that some Yoruba pastors and Alfa are doing damage to our own religion and culture by preaching negative against it. Today, many Yorubas still refer or have the notion that Esù is the same as the devil in the Christian Bible, which is not true, it was an error by Bishop Ajayi crowther who translated the Bible into Yoruba language although new version of bible being translated to Yoruba now are using Satani, and not Esu anymore.
Finally this video below should encourage every Yoruba to be proud our own religion and culture and stop all this petty fight amongst ourselves over foreign religion just like the event of the Hijab going on in Kwara state. Many muslims can not even explain to us on how Hijab came to be, they do not have the idea that it was because of the weather in the Middle East where there are always dust sandy cloud, that is one of many reasons that brought about ladies covering their heads, even Mary the mother of Jesus Christ used what we call Hijab likewise their Muslim men often covers their heads, that is where the Lawani came out from. Today in Saudi Arabia, their men still covers their head, although that Practice metamorphosis into their culture and mode of dressing, and it even a fashion now.
Finally the point of this article is to encourage we Yorubas to embrace our beautiful culture and religion, we should stop giving rooms for one pastor or Imam to be condemning our religion and culture, we should love and take pride in our religion and culture.
