Very big and important, major project.

This will make Nigeria a real player in the world gas market.

A direct gas pipeline from Nigeria through West African countries into Europe means lower gas prices from Nigeria, which means many many buyers.

Attracting world gas buyers has always been about price. And transport costs have always been a big part of that.

So a gas pipeline from Nigeria means Senegal, Gambia, Morocco, Mali, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Spain etc will, rather than import gas from Brazil or Russia at high rates, simply tap into the Nigerian pipeline for lower-priced, high quality gas.

Nigeria actually has more natural gas reserves than oil.

Now we can capitalise on our gas resources with this pipeline.

I see our national budget doubling from the current 35 billion dollars to 70 billion dollars or more per annum, once this pipeline is fully operational.

It will greatly boost the economy, and raise living standards across the board.

Kudos to the Buhari administration on this laudable, patriotic project that will help take Nigeria to the next level.

Meanwhile the 12 billion dollar Dangote Refinery is another game changer, that will not only see the permanent end to Nigeria's importation of fuel, but will make Nigeria Africa's biggest producer and supplier of processed petroleum products.

Our future is bright.

You can't protect human beings in the North, you think they can defend a gas pipeline?

Selling gas is good but using gas is better

If we find a way to use more energy at home we will be a wealthy nation

Exporting energy will not do that

There is a direct link between wealth and energy consumption
Countries that have no gas are able to secure gas in almost every home but we are still cooking with firewood, kerosene and charcoal

Let us learn to see the big picture and stop celebrating mediocrity

How many of the pipes in that pipeline are made in Africa?

We should focus on our LNG where we have serious comparative advantage. And whichh is also perhaps the fastest growing commodity. There is no dedicated upstream cost for us. Our plants are supplied by extant projects. Bonny Lng is a top 3 cost efficency operation...

Transport cost to East Asia, Western Europe and North America is very favorable to us (vs mozambique, qatar etc). We own the supply structure for that and can sell to the highest bidder unlike pipeline gas. Lng allows us develop auxiliary services that add greatly to our economy, e.g bonny gas transport with its own fleet and seamen , repairmen, engineers etc on an ongoing basis.

Pipeline gas is cool but thru the sahara to morocco ? Pay transit fees to reach Spanish points that have LNG terminals ? Insecurity issue with IS and AQ (have to spend on security contracts to outside parties ? ). In a perfect setting, the rationale makes sense. But in the present context tho. All the insecurity and lawlessness in the Sahel. And neither Niger nor Mali can or are properly policing the northern sectors of their territories.

Bonny is profitably supplying to several Spanish customers.

We should have exceeded 40 million tons/annum by now, but are still below 30. Nigeria can be a top 3 LNG supplier in the mould of Qatar. Esp when we consider that we haven't even started dedicated gas E and P as a priority.

Let's focus on getting OCP getting that plant up and running.
On the other hand, this energy should be directed towards revamping Brass LNG and another one in Akwa Ibom. Even Olokola for the western Delta.

GEJ's lack of initiative on advancing Brass Lng was a massive folly on his part. This is not the right time for this project.

What's to defend in a gas pipeline?. What will happen to it?
A great portion of it will be buried. Who will vandalise a gas pipeline?. You can try but buy a coffin first

You are looking at the terminating points and not the number of countries on the route and value chain industries possible just by having the pipeline.

Another thing is that Nigeria 's gas reserves are beyond what LNG plants can significantly dip into.
Nigeria is sitting on trillions of cubic feet of the stuff. When you build 100 LNG plants, you are just scratching the surface.

Is this really a serious question?
The purpose of vandalism is to destroy,
They are not trying to tap gas, they are destroying the installations,
Who would protect the workers?

After all we are talking about people that stroll into major military installations, kill soldiers and ransack the armoury, attack governors and raid communities for hours unhindered,

The only solution (if you are a realist) is to have the installations under various militias, which is the future of Nigeria anyway!

Well true you are correct on that. The project can service several markets but the only one of note would be that of the North Africans. Large areas of those transit countries are really non viable. 100 LNG plants would be too much for NGA or any other country for that matter including Qatar. Bonny processes close to a trillion a year.

It is a massive endeavor, multibillion USD project. All Im saying is that there are less expensive alternatives that can yield even this 25 bln in a five year span. Esp given the performance of Bonny vs say even WAGP.

If we had sorted those out, then why not? We can proceed on this. That's one of the things that bothered previous bonny MDs like Babs Omotowa. They were surprised at the focus given to Trans Sahara over getting simple approvals for extra trains at their operation.

And talking about scratching the surface. See how without dedicated exploration we are talking about 200 trillion scf. Some experts say it could be as high as 300 to 500 (possibly). In that case our market is maybe the most important thing we shld be focusing on. GDP of geo zones like SW SS and NW really lessen the attractiveness of most nearby markets.
Harness it for ourselves first too. Cos after all LNG is just export revenue. Industry at home needs it. AKK for example as a starting point.

Ps: the security contract rackets that would be built on this will make N-delta equivalents look small.

Did I insinuate that private investment isn't for the aim of profit making The post i quoted said something about South Africa having six refineries in order to belittle Nigeria hence my response. It's one thing to state fact and yet it's another thing to make wrong assertions.
Dangote refinery would make Nigeria the biggest player in the oil and gas field in Africa. Fact. But that's also taking into consideration all other privately owned refineries on stream or being constructed in the country right now. Whether it's having positive impact on the price of the commodities is another discussion entirely.

We've been awarded a contract to provide main front-end engineering design (FEED Phase II) services for the Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline (NMGP) project. The engineering study is progressing in accordance with the initial project planning.

When completed, the over 7,000 km long gas pipeline, being promoted by Office National des Hydrocarbures et des Mines (ONHYM) of Morocco and Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) of Nigeria, will link Nigeria with Morocco, cross 11 west African countries and extend to Europe. It will be the longest offshore pipeline in the world and the second longest pipeline overall.

The NMGP pipeline is expected to traverse 13 countries, and will help to boost local industries and economies by delivering a reliable and sustainable energy source. It will also support industrial development and create employment opportunities.

Additionally, the pipeline will provide a new avenue for countries along the route to export their gas to their neighboring countries and Europe. Delivering this project requires expertise from all over the world.

The overall FEED services will be managed by Intecsea BV, our offshore engineering consultancy business in The Hague, the Netherlands. This includes the development of the project implementation framework and supervision of the engineering survey.

The onshore FEED scope, the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) and Land Acquisition Studies (LAS) will be delivered by our team in London, UK. The project will also be supported by our network of offices in Africa, and our global integrated delivery team in Hyderabad, India.

Advisian, our global consulting business, will explore the acceleration of electrification and the feasibility of energy self-sufficiency in the region. Our UK and Madrid offices will set out the potential to use renewable energy resources to power the pipeline and reduce the project’s carbon footprint.

“Being part of a project that not only looks towards sustainability, but also contributes to boosting regional economy and supports the development of local communities is an incredible opportunity,” said Ping Liu, Managing Director of Intecsea BV.

“The NMGP is a project that reflects our purpose of delivering a more sustainable world. We look forward to working with ONHYM and NNPC as we journey into a new chapter for West Africa.”

You say that because you lack insight and are jumping on a bandwagon
Real player in world gas market?? Is that a chieftaincy title.?

why not make Nigeria a major gas market in the world, in consumption terms?
Why not West Africa or Africa BECOMIG the biggest market for gas?
. Gas is used in industries to create jobs which we desperately need. That is why our young people die in the Mediterranean. No jobs

countries grow when they expand energy utilization not by exporting energy

It will be a big deal for Europe not for us

when we export gas we are merely exporting the future of our children whilst we are cooking with kerosene and firewood

what we need is to make cooking gas available to all Nigerians affordably, to use our gas to fix our electricity and power our industries.

There is nothing to celebrate.

we have been exporting crude and gas for decades what do we have to show for it.

someone will start shouting $12 billion FDI whilst a penny won't enter Nigerian banks

the pipelines are fabricated in Europe creating Jobs there.

we need to wake up if we must sell gas let us sell to Cameroon Niger and Benin so they too can grow.
In London , Manchester etc every house has gas pipe in. they switch on gas taps inside their homes and they are cooking, no cylinders

what do we have? Firewood and karosin

we need to wake up.
FYI

There is already a West African Gas Project and company not to be confused with a pipeline to Morocco or Europe and Senegal also has plenty of gas.

We too ,like Russia, should take a hard line and not export gas to help others without any gain for us

Europe are are direct competitors in the use of gas for things we can and should be making like fertilizers, cement and chemical's which are energy intensive products

The only benefit of having gas is using it locally. Exporting it is exploitation

Let us think about how to enhance our capacity
TO USE GAS

look at this map
https://yearbook.enerdata.net/natural-gas/gas-consumption-data.html

The more gas we use the better for us

So why should we focus on investment that does not help us strategically?

We have a large population of young people.
If our gas cannot help them. Let it stay in the ground
