-British named them *Southern Rhodesia.* They rejected it, restructured and renamed themselves *Zimbabwe.*

-British named them *Northern Rhodesia.* They rejected it, restructured and renamed themselves *Zambia.*

-British named them *Tanganyika.* They rejected it, restructured & renamed themselves *Tanzania.*

-Germans named them *colony of South West Africa.* They rejected it, restructured and renamed themselves *Namibia.*

-France named them *Dahomey.* They rejected it, restructured and renamed themselves *Benin.*

Good and factual write-up. I guess Nigeria's case will always be different for reasons unknown, or maybe not.

As for the name, it was probably easier for countries with smaller populations and ethnic groups to come together and make a unified decision.

It may still happen here when or if we get to a point where we decide to move forward TOGETHER, after all the trouble.

As for staying together, the English have had a particular interest in Nigeria, namely money/oil and other trade. It pays them that we stay as one.

The biggest factor in us staying together is external, for the interest of another nation. Not enough people know this yet, and so action for change is limited.

The people of Nigeria were forced into one country because of one british company trying to hold on to it's business interests against another country. It's still the same.

We are just bigger and therefore harder to bring together to make proper and well informed decisions. Greed is killing us, every nation for itself at the moment.

The time is here though, when some questions will have to be answered or life will answer them for us through war and disintegration.

Enough of Nigerian, a fail state and shall be divided.

Just a little addition.

The UK that is made up of people of the same race and RELIGION still find it convenient to adopt the devolution of power model.

Nigeria that is made up of people who are barely the same race and definitely NOT OF THE SAME RELIGION, coupled with the fact that Fulanis subscribe to modern day cow herding with a huge dose of terrorism infused in the practise, with a Fulani president refusing to curtail the activities of his fellow Fulani terrorists. But for some reason, devolution of power model is frowned upon by the powers that be, actively supported by the UK.

The same UK that was aggressively against Turkey joining the EU, principally because Turkey was a Muslim country with a different cultural outlook, that is no where as aggressive as Fulani cattle herding terrorism.
