I think it is wrong to host wedding with an intention to get financial and material gifts from guests. People have turned wedding to fund raising event. The food and drinks you provide at your wedding is to show you are happy that you have been blessed with a life partner.

The food and the drinks are not different from what you take to church for thanksgiving or the drinks you offer your friends when celebrating your new house or your new car. So, do it according to your capacity and do not indirectly make it mandatory for people to give you money or material things. If people wish to appreciate your marriage with gifts, it is fine. But it is wrong for you to complain when people do not do that. Stop setting unannounced target for your wedding guests.

It is true that marriage comes with responsibility. But marriage also comes with an empowerment to face the responsibility. You and your spouse are coming together to team up for greater productivity and to collectively become more successful. The union is not to incapacitate you from being productive. Even a sick person does not make it mandatory for people to raise fund for him. Stop making it mandatory for people to raise fund for you for or during your wedding. If eating at your wedding automatically means giving you money, the guests can use the money to get the food in an eatery, rather than traveling far to honour your wedding invitation. The guests presence that graces the event costs time and money and should be considered enough sacrifice. Do not sell the food and drinks to the guests.

But for clubs or associations that specify what you should serve them at your wedding, you have the right to tell them what they should give you. In fact, those clubs or associations know and they usually provide at least what can afford what you serve them.
