MY Uber Xperiences by Aprilearlywind: 2:17pm On Apr 26, 2021
Hi, my name is Emmanuel and I am a National Youth Corps Member currently serving in Lagos State, at Media Reach OMD located between Ikeja and Maryland. Today's date is the 26th of April, 2021 (26/04/2021). Every morning I enter an uber to work at around 7:30 am or 8:00 am, I always try to arrive at work before my resumption time which is 9:00 am, my allowance is nothing to write about (laughs) but the experience is wonderful, I learn a lot at work. The staff there are wonderful and this is no exaggeration, they are the reason I always try to get to work early, hoping to learn at least one new thing everyday and I will through my dedication, availability and willingness. Back to why I started this Topic, every morning on my way to work, I engage my uber drivers so the ride is not a boring one but these days the stories I hear are mind-blowing, some are even unbelievable while some happen once in a life-time and others might never happen to some of us at all. Get settled, relax your mind, grab a box of popcorn and a glass of drink as I promise to share with you my uber xperiences. Once again my name is Emmanuel.

So on my way to work on Tuesday, 20th March, 2021. I spoke with Jeff, who told me about his encounter with three ladies the previous morning, he believed they were sex workers because of how they were dressed and their pick up location. He said he picked all three from a hotel around Oniru, Lagos within the early hours of Tuesday, and while one was putting on a widely open net gown with only pants, he meant only pant, no bra, (don't smile), the other two were putting on really short t-shirts and just pant, "the one wey wear net dey point gan, my thing just dey stand anyhow, I shock how girl go fit wear that kind cloth comot from house", he added (don't smile). This experience might sound funny to some and might sound offensive to others but don't forget my aim is not to condemn anyone or victimize anyone or decide whose fault it was, my aim is simply for many to read and learn or gain experience from the experiences of others, either as a driver, a rider or none. According to him, the quarrel started after he made a statement to a video he watched online about an Uber driver getting punched in the mouth by his rider for unknown reasons, he said his words were "Omo if na me I no gree make my fellow man punch me for wetin". So the girl on net gown who sat directly behind him replied him saying he was stupid for concluding just by watching the video and why did he watch the video while driving in the first place, that she has had issues with different drivers and she even had to fight with some. Jeff said he was angry that she called him stupid because he could tell judging by her looks that he was way older and the only reason he watched the video was because the traffic light was red and they had to stop for a bit so he asked her to never call him stupid again, he said his words were "because of chicken change small girl wey just start to f#ck go dey tell me say I stupid, make e no happen again". But she refused and said he was mad for calling her a small girl and a prostitute, in his words "she even say na my mama be ashewo, bros, if you see the small girl, you sef go vex slap am". So I updated him that I was the only boy with two sisters and I have never had any reason to hit a lady before, not once even in my past relationships, it has never happened and it will never happen. But I jumped right back to the discussion and asked what happened next, he said he was angry but the other two were trying to calm him down and shut the girl up but she refused and kept on calling him names, he said she further went on to say even if he offered her one million, she will never have sex with a dirty idiot like him, in his words, "she even say even if I give am one million, she no go f#ck dirty idiot like me, me wey be say na my car i dey take use do uber, omo na there the thing vex me finally". So he couldn't keep calm again, he had to react. Once again my name is Emmanuel.

He said he took advantage of the fact that were not properly dressed and took them to a rough are with lot of garage boys, conductors and public bus drivers (I'm guessing Ajah bus stop) , cancelled the trip and asked all of them to come down, in his words "the thing wey she talk vex me gan, i come notice say those two girls dey beg me because of wetin them wear so I carry them go one rough area, then I end trip, tell them make them comot from my car, bros I know say e pain them because of wetin them wear, but na that one wey insult me I know say them go touch well well, them fit even naked am or rape am sef, because the girl hot I no go like, her thing dey point gan, bros if you sef see that girl you go wan f#ck am make i no lie". When I asked if they were harassed, he said he doesn't know because he didn't wait after he dropped them, he drove off. In my opinion, he lied, he waited because after ending their trip he needed another ride to proceed, he probably saw them get harassed, maybe dragged into a corner by some boys so his assumptions were not assumptions but reality, he just noticed the disgusted look on my face when he said he intentionally took them to a rough area and dropped them off, he probably didn't even drop them off politely, he most likely dragged them out but then again my aim is not to condemn anyone or victimize anyone or decide whose fault it was, my aim is simply for many to read and learn or gain experience from the experiences of others, either as a driver, a rider or none. To my beautiful ladies out there, avoid engaging in discussions that might lead to arguments, your safety should come before your opinion. Once again my name is Emmanuel

Your Uber driver is simply a pervert masquerading as a professional driver. He doesn't deserve to be in that profession and I would have finished him if he told me that sort of rubbish story. Everything he did that morning as the girls entered his car were all wrong.

1. U picked supposed half dressed sex workers from a hotel early in d morning. U should know they are done with work and heading home to sleep. But no, u must have a conversation to try luck.
2. In a desperate means to start a conversation, u watch a video while on the steering, and then speak out loud to draw their attention to ur video.
3. One girl, reasonably admonishes you for watching a video while driving and u pick offence
4. Instead of to take the lesson knowing u re wrong, u make a sexual remark to her.
5. She responded, effectively ending ur perverted dreamy desire to have her. What do u do? U drop them where other boys can molest them since u cant.

Your Uber driver Jeff is a pervert and a potential rapist, that's exactly what he is.

And u Emmanuel, u couldn't tell him how stupid he is and a disgrace to adult males, u re there listening to story to come tell us on Nairaland.

Thank you all for the opinions but back to why I am here. On Friday, 23rd April 2021, I had a chat with my Uber driver, Collins who shared his ordeal with a male rider. So get settled, relax your mind, grab a box of popcorn and a glass of drink as I promise to share with you my Uber xperiences, but don't forget my aim is not to condemn anyone or victimize anyone or decide whose fault it was, my aim is simply for many to read and learn or gain experience from the experiences of others. So Collins said the argument started after he took a shorter but faster route than the usual trying to avert the heavy traffic on the expressway and save his rider extra hours on the road. He said he had picked up his rider from Surulere to drop him off at Abraham Adesanya, but approaching the second toll gate he had noticed a heavy traffic ahead and since he was familiar with the area he decided to take a faster route, in his words “as we dey go, we come enter traffic and I know say that road dey free by that time so I say make I use my google map check how front be like, I come find out say everywhere don block pata pata so I say make I take short cut so we go fit reach there on time, make him no late”. But this good will of his did not go down well with his rider who immediately started to panic and ask questions. Once again my name is Emmanuel.

Either trying to get his rider to his destination on time as he claimed or hurrying up to end his current trip so as to receive another, Collins was already on another route which was different from the usual causing his rider to loose his composure and ask questions like “why are you taking here”? “Where are you taking me too”? Why did you pass this route”. Collins said he tried calming his rider’s anxiety by explaining to him that there was a heavy traffic on the expressway which made him take a different route so he could get the rider to his destination faster. But the rider who was already thrown into a fright, became more aggressive and struggled the steering with him, forcing him to make a stop in the middle of the road. In his words “as I see say him don dey shake because of the many many questions wey him dey ask me like, why I dey take here? where I dey carry am go? why I Dey follow this side? I come explain to am say na short cut I take because of traffic but omo this one no gree o, he follow me drag steering from my hand so tey we almost get accident, so I gats stop the car for middle of road”. Collins said the rider came down and started walking away in search of an alternative means of transportation I.e a bike, so he approached him and asked him to come back into the car so he could take him to his destination making a u-turn back to the route he is familiar with or pay him for the journey so far before leaving, in his words “as we stop, the guy just come down begin dey go, he even stop bike say make that one push am go front, omo bro I rush go meet say wetin dey happen na, make we go back make I turn go expressway since na that one him Sabi or make him just jeje pay me my money for the one wey I don drive am cos owo ni koko” But to his greatest surprise the rider was fully ready to resolve the issue a different way. Re: MY Uber Xperiences by Aprilearlywind: 7:48pm On Apr 27, 2021
At this point the rider had already lost his cool, I’m thinking due to time delay, miscommunication and fear of not feeling safe, but for whichever reason he said the rider came down from the bike pushed him to the ground, before he could pick himself up he was covered in several punches from the rider, “as I tell am say make him pay me my money, I no know wetin enter am, him just come down from the bike push for ground, before I know wetin dey happen, na so this guy begin blow me for face, no be play play blow oh, this one wan spoil my face gan”. But due to the mercies of some passerby that intervened and pleaded with the rider to stop, Collins was able to pick himself up and explain the reason for the dispute, he said fortunately they were able to stop the driver from beating him some more but they had no luck convincing him to pay for the trip as he was headstrong about it and left in a bike. He said he reported the issue to the right authorities and they promised to look investigate further. In my Opinion, dear drivers it is very thoughtful to try and get your riders to their destination on time as some might be in a hurry but it is also very necessary that you communicate with them first before making any discussion contrary from the initial plan. Don’t forget my aim is not to condemn anyone or victimize anyone or decide whose fault it was, my aim is simply for many to read and learn or gain experience from the experiences of others, either as a driver, a rider or none.
