Start small. In the olden days I would have suggested basic/pascal, but today, PHP. Conceptually easier to grasp and simultaneously marketable a skill. Rare quality indeed.

What’s wrong with that?
I began with C.
It’s even better to start with one of those mid-level languages.
I eventually got to realize that c shares similarities with a lot of other languages.
Starting with python will teach you bad programming habits.

Op don't listen to those telling you to start with this or that language.

What's your career plan? That is what aspect of programming do you want to do e.g frontend, backend, mobile, system, Blockchain, fullstack etc.

My advice to you is research on these programming fields, career prospects, average salary, job openings etc.

It's only when you pick your field that you choose a language(s) to learn in that field. A programming language is just a tool to get the job done.

Starting with C, is quite better than C++ because C has some similarities with JavaScript too.

Reason why I said he should start with Python, is because Python has been known to be beginner friendly.

I know that python is beginner friendly; but starting with an “easier ” language might not always be best.
Python doesn’t have strict typing rules and this might lead to mistakes if you now have to use a stricter language.
That’s my opinion sha; and python does have the advantage that it builds confidence in beginners because of its friendly nature.
But the most important thing is really what he wants to do with programming; that would determine his choice of language.
