How Big Is The Telecom Market In Nigeria? by sureinfo: 4:01pm On May 20, 2021
Recently I saw a post on front page asking people to suggest a business one can start with 500 thousand naira, off all the comments one that caught my attention was that of selling mobile phone accessories, at first it looked like a joke to me but when I began to analyze the facts on ground I saw a very strong point in that business idea which led me to wonder how big exactly the Nigerian telecommunication market is and how much opportunity it can provide to the good people of this country, Let's dive in!

Generally, the advent of mobile phones gradually killed the landline market (i.e Nitel) so much emphasis will be on mobile phones and the opportunities they have to offer.

* We already have many smart phone brands like TECNO, samsung, Oppo, Infinix etc pouring in different models of phones to suit their different customers, on the other hand most of these phones don't run simless, that already provides a market for service providers like Glo, mtn, airtel, etisalat etc.

* To use your sim (both for calls and surfing the web) you need data or airtime, that provides a market for airtime and data vendors.

* Phones do get damaged and need repair, that already provides market for phone engineers.

* Phones accessories is one major aspect of the Telecom industry, brands like Oraimo and romoss have studied the customers needs and realized that with power being an issue it's only fair to provide accessories like chargers and powerbanks. Still talking of accessories, free pods, earpieces come in handy for both calls and listening to music.

The list of opportunities in the Telecom industry is just endless, one can argue that all these would be more fun if they were all produced in the country but hey!, we're getting there, and before we get to the full manufacturing stage nothing stops anyone from jumping on the opportunities the Telecom market has to offer, after all there's just so many things that can be done with smartphones. This is just my take sha, everyone is entitled to his or her opinions and I'm all open to learn other opportunities that can come from the telecommunication market.

Nice read op, but I have a question. Are you saying if not for Nigeria's power situation companies like Oraimo wouldn't have had a place to do business in the country?

Last year, the telecoms industry contributed immensely to the GDP of the country. One sector that maintained profit. So yes, it's a major one. Phone and laptop users need a powerbank because the light supply is not good enough and that's why most accessories like Romoss, New Age and Oraimo producers are enjoying patronage.

lol, not really, aside from power banks they also have other accessories now, like free pods and earpieces. So even if the light issue was stable people will still listen to music.

It is quite big o, at least big enough to house so many brands like Oraimo, romoss, Huawei, TECNO, samsung, Oppo, Infinix, Itel, Xaomi, Glo, Mtn, Airtel, New age, etc. It's literally a virgin soil for investment.

Apart from Telecommunications being a global leading business, it has also provided lots of business opportunities with TECNO Mobile taking the leading spot in Africa, I see Oraimo doing same too in term of assessories.
