That is a 5500mm [5.5m] dish, as was made. Hope everyone enjoys the ride !,makings of the smaller dishes become highly simplified, don't you think its a WHOLE lot of fun.
Well, if you ask me what I think , i'd say its fun.

@ Geometry Wow! it will really be a fun. well done my brother. you are giving the key of fringe satellite reception to those who don't have the money to buy Big and quality dishes to track nilesat, Hot bird etc. may God bless you, newton, swordswifter and others who have made this thread a success. Please, how are the materials mentioned at the beginning of this thread applied in their right proportions. I mean: aluminum foil, Resin, Carbon matte, catalyst etc

Just as i said yesterday the subsequent pix have answered my questions.

I think you should also not pay too much attention to the camera date after all it is not the point of importance.

Once again great job, it would really be fun.

But please dont let us be fooled it will need a lot of skill and expertise to get it right.

But all the same it is worth a try.

All sizes of dish are mold-able and installable, that is just the fact. But there are always factors that determine what size you want and all ,,

@ geometry Please, as for mold making , it looks a bit clear .but it seems if we get pictures of the casting of the fiberglass, it might serve a good purpose as well. Please help us.

@ dodos yes. i am a bit confused. it looks like a submarine just submerging from the sea. at this point i am on a new land and my eyes cant see anything except. but let give Geometry time because all the questions that were asked at the beginning of this thread are being answered with time.

@ ALL,
the mixing techniques vary from what time of the day you are casting to how fast or slow you want the process to be. in pix,  i doubt if i will be able to produce that for now, but by simple illustration, anybody that is ready can let us go. somebody like dodo appreciate too much of picture and sometimes i wonder if all other explanation has a meaning to him.[DODO , I  know a lot of us are like that, and plz, don't take this to be an insult, remember we are all catching fun in what we like to do] but I will try my best in simple illustration to make sure we get somewhere.
Reason for non availability of your request in pix is that I am far away from home and I am not in touch with those materials right now.

BASICALLY, we have four major components of fiber glass,

resin - colorless, just like ''ororo'' vegetable oil.
catalyst - is actually a family of peroxide , it has a color of water
accelerator - deep blue color, like ''jellu''
fiber matte  - a kind of weaven clothing of fiber strands. you can spread and cut with scissors over the mold surface.

the first three come in liquid form,  with resin been more viscous.,
now if you have a resin of 1 liter , for an average slow curing process, and for a beginner in a cool day, add two spoonful of accelerator and mix thoroughly, , that's, the colorless resin now is being pigmented by deep blue coloration of accelerator,, then  add one spoonful of cataotlyst , the one that has the color of water , so to say, by the way , you must have your brush ready and presumably prepare your fiber matte on the mold for casting.
from this simple analysis we can infer that accelerator and catalyst are in ratio 2:1 respectively.

WARNING, don't dare mix catalyst and accelerator together , the reaction is highly exothermic and EXPLOSIVE !

THEN , you must have water and detergent by your side to wash off the mixture from the brush after casting to preserve it.
as time goes by, you will be able to judge and mix similar proportion of the mixture but in large volume.

HINT:
always mix your resin and accelerator first, then latter add catalyst and mix the three.
DO NEVER MIX CATALYST AND ACCELERATOR TOGETHER AT FIRST, IT IS DANGEROUS !

the names given names given of these materials are the market names , they have standard chemical names that might not be of importance to us for now.

Thank you for appreciating the tokens of idea on building the dishes, and i think i like the saying too, about hitting the birds and building the dishes, lol. , is interesting !

@geometry Which type of resin did you use and how many gallons did you use for your 5.5m dish? i will like to start with 1.2m dish and test it on the easy birds and know my accuracy. however, my problem now is how i can get those materials in Ghana here. If you would have been in Nigeria, i would have come.
i saw some resins on the net. polyester resin is cheap but i learn t it shrinks too much. however, epoxy resin i learn t is the best but the price seems to be expensive. i want to know which is which.
with the fiber cloth, k-glass, e-glass and s-glass. which of these will be good for our discussion and topic above?
