Nigeria is a country filled with amazing people and incredible things. As fascinating as the country is, it is however not devoid of abnormalities- infact, it is the headquarters of some of the most abnormal human behavioural patterns on Earth.

In today’s edition of ‘Checkmate’, we’ll be taking a look at some abnormal things that have become normal in Nigeria. In no particular order, let’s go!

*Urinating anywhere we feel like: This act symbolizes our penchant for lawlessness. Everybody act the way he/she feels like or pleases- even in public without considering the impact/effect of their actions/inactions on others.

*Every politician has a terminal illness: Every Nigerian political office is as fit as a fiddle until the day the EFCC invites them for question and then charge them to court. Once this happens, then boom!!! They will suddenly become so sick that if they are not permitted to travel (run) abroad for urgent medical attention, they will kiss the bucket.

*Blaming others except ourselves: bulk passing is now a norm! Every Nigerian has been programmed to blame others for his/her predicaments. E.g the masses who use refuse to block drainages and water channels will turn around and blame the government when their community is flooded.
The government that has failed in providing adequate security for the masses will turn around and blame the masses for not providing useful information to the police.

*Poverty is caused by village people: yes, the proverbial village people are responsible for our misfortunes including our failure to have sense.

*Kidnappings, banditry and killings: The security situation in Nigeria has become so bad that no day passes without news of mass abduction and or killings of innocent citizens making the headlines. Mass kidnapping and killing of Nigerians especially school children is no longer a national tragedy; its now a norm!
