Nigerians woke up to a shocking media statement by the minister of information & culture Lai Mohammed who announced that the federal government of Nigeria had suspended indefinitely the operation of the Twitter social media app in the country citing the persistent use of the platform for activities that are capable of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence.

Before the suspension of the platform’s services in Nigeria Twitter had earlier deleted tweets and video from the verified handle of President Muhammad Buhari making threats of punishment to a sect called IPOB in the South-Eastern part of the country after he blamed them for attacks on government buildings.

He then referenced Nigeria’s civil war events in the 1960s, which seemed to offend many Nigerians.

Many Nigerians have since found other means to log on to the platform via VPN because for many of them it is their only source of earnings rather than resulting in criminality.

In a country that has not only failed to provide employment for its youth but has also failed to address the many issues, the country is currently grappling with.

The suspension Is a complete misplaced priority the government should rather focus on making Nigerian work for Nigerians.
