Man tipped as Bin Laden's successor revealed to be target of U.S. drone attack in Yemen

The U.S. drone attack that killed two Al Qaeda militants in Yemen on Thursday was targeting the man tipped to be Bin Laden's successor.

Officials confirmed that Anwar al-Awlaki survived the missile attack on a car in southern Yemen that killed two mid-level Al Qaeda opperatives.

Yemen's Defense Ministry identified them as brothers Musa'id and Abdullah Mubarak al-Daghari.

U.S. born radical al-Awlaki is widely believed to be the mastermind behind a number of terror atrocities and the leader of Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula.

Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, or AQAP, is estimated to number about 300 militants with strongholds in a number of remote mountain regions.

It is thought to be behind numerous attacks on government targets and is said to have inspired attacks by Muslims inside the United States - including the Fort Hood, Texas, shootings in which an Army psychiatrist is accused of killing 13 people and wounding 32.

It's also thought the group has twice smuggled explosives aboard aircraft headed to the United States.

Al-Awlaki's chilling plans for a Mumbai-style terror attack on Britain were were also uncovered last week.

Chilling email exchanges between an undercover Sun reporter and al-Awlaki - widely tipped to succeed Osama bin Laden as Al Qaeda leader - outlines the various options open to extremists who want to launch an attack on British soil.

In the correspondence, al-Awlaki allegedly advises 'pipe bombs, assassinations or using a firearm at a location crowded with enemies'.

This is believed to be a reference to the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks in India where gunmen rampaged through the city, killing 164 people.

It added: 'We would also suggest that if you have decided to go ahead do not contact us because this may bring surveillance on you.'

The email was signed 'Your brothers at al-Qaeda of the Arabian Peninsula'.

Al-Awlaki  is said to have brainwashed Roshonara Choudhry, the 21-year-old student who went on to stab MP Stephen Timms in his constituency in May last year.

Earlier this year he was also linked to British Airways worker Rajib Karim, 31, who was jailed for 30 years in March for his part in a plot to blow up an airliner.

Karim wanted to use his position at the airline to plant a bomb on a plane as part of a conspiracy with al-Awlaki.

Following the death of bin Laden in Abbottabad last week, it has emerged that the U.S. may be behind another drone attack in Pakistan's tribal region on Friday.

Pakistani intelligence officials told CNN that 12 suspected militants were killed in the assault in the Data Khel region of North Waziristan, one of the seven districts of Pakistan's volatile tribal region bordering Afghanistan.

The drone, an unmanned aircraft, attacked a militant hideout and a vehicle carrying suspected militants.

Meanwhile, an anonymous U.S. official has claimed that bin Laden was still fully engaged in plotting terror atrocities around the world, despite his isolation in Abbottabad.

The offical claims that details found on computers and hard drives detail other 9-11-style attacks.

RIP Mr. Osama Successor.

Now he knows his time is up.

US cameras know where he is.

US drones cant wait to spill his Jihad meat on the tarmac.

Now he knows his time is up.

Let him repent now and give his life to Muhammed.
(hope it happens like that too in Islam as in Christianity)

abeg go sidon, this half baked immigrant whose tomorrow is hanging on a mare stamp trying to claim another! America is a guilty as the extremist!
If it were Russia that used such commando style to kill any of thier perceived enemy, I am sure all of you would have been calling Russia names!

But let me remind you, that most countries aint that much concerned about Osama kilings rather they are beginning to ask themselves sailent questions regarding thier parternship with the US military on so many front granted the information experts are now chunking out ohow US executed her plans and the kind of weaponary that was allegedly used.

Barring very few countries in the europe, others largely made any official comments on the matter, something i know has kept the US government a bit surprise hence her drive to keep releasing information about the killing on a daily bases even when those information has already being in the public domain in certain forums on the net!
